Famous urinal artwork damaged by man with a hammer

PARIS (AFP) - "Fountain", a famous artwork consisting of a ceramic urinal made by French-US artist Marcel Duchamp, has been damaged while on display in Paris's Pompidou Centre by an elderly vandal armed with a hammer, the museum and police said.

[...]

The urinal, considered a seminal piece to come from the early 19th-century Dada movement, is valued at some three million euros (3.5 million dollars).

A $3.5M urinal was chipped by a Frenchman with a hammer.

I just ain't too worked up about it.

Says it is the second time the old man has attacked it. Leaves me wondering what he has against overpriced urinals...

Art is fragile, and probably wouldn't be considered art if there weren't some geezer that considered it an abomination.

considering that in 2004, 500 of the top art critics in the world decided that that urinal was the most influential work of modern art-- i think 3.5 mil is piss cheap...
