Eight chosen techniques

If could only master eight techniques, I mean good enough to win any competition sport or survival, what would they be? I was told a story about a grandmaster of an art know 2500+ techniques, while, when asked a 8 time bloodsport champion stated he only use 8 techniques total. Thoughts

Obviously those 2500 techniques are a variation of fewer base techniques. We argue about this on the kenpo forum all the time. Eight sounds about right. I often say there are but six.
