I received this in E-mail earlier, for posting here. I think this will answer some questions and might cause some others to be asked. That is usually the nature of such things. -Don
I support the Presas family first and foremost, but I would like to give credit to the Tapi-Tapi group for maintaining the most current version of Professor's interior lines and close quarter solo baston (i.e. Tapi Tapi...) I like and respect all the men I have met from that group and truly believe they loved and cared for Professor. I do wish the split between Delaney and Dr. Shea had not happened so early as they were really supposed to keep each other in check, at least as it was explained to me. The split also reinforces the probability of a weak link in the chain of command, that it really did exist.
I have never felt very secure about Delaney taking the independent stance as the New Grandmaster, please hold the memory of Professor a little higher in esteem...
I am more than concerned about his admitted weak areas of knowledge in the complete system of Modern Arnis. I have been approached by many people who know Delaney's background and actual time commitment to Modern Arnis, honestly it does not wash. I also know the arrangement Professor had with the new video tape series, in many ways, the words, "over a barrel and now I am very ill... I do not want to start trouble while I am sick..." were spoken to me more than once.... Remy never recovered, so he could not set things any straighter than what unfolded... I was told by Remy he was upset at Jeff because of the tape situation and especially the Co-Successor's ADs we all seen in Black Belt! Jeff was told directly not to do that, but he did it anyway...
You see, when I came back into the fold, I came as Remy's friend and Brother and not as a student, as he said, "He (Kelly) became famous without me, he did his own work..." That is a direct quote of Remy's heard by many... So, I was more privy to some conversations that others were not and since I was not concerned any longer about rank I spoke my mind and asked questions others would not....
Yes, much confusion exists around this whole issue, If I understand it correctly Delaney, was a 5th degree.
So are the Tapi Tapi masters, including Dr.Shea, but none of them took the stance that they are Grandmasters...
I think we all have a voice in this matter, no one is coming out of the woodwork, many are taking a sabbatical and reasonable grief time, PLEASE! As others cloud the air with thoughts of grandeur and concerns of rank, and who's in charge? Again PLEASE!
Believe me, the things that others want, I have wanted too, I stepped out of the direct group years ago because I was crowding Professor for glory, HIS...GLORY.
I was "Natural Spirit Chapter of Modern Arnis," I just became "Natural Spirit" and stayed in the shadows and earned his respect and endorsement silently, while I did my work...
Do I want leadership of Modern Arnis? No, not by a longshot... I honestly believe it is a cultural art and we as a group should maintain our independence if that is what we want... But seek the cultural connection from the mother country and maybe even give the family a chance to embrace the art their father sacrificed his close ties to his family and country for. If we were not selfish and power motivated we would offer our skills to enhance whatever the Presas family brings with them to the table. You can't get much closer to the memory of Remy Presas than his sons and daughters... Who was the King of Modern Arnis and who were his Knights?
