What's the difference between kids "trying to kill each other" and doing BJJ?

I got to class early the other day, during the kids class. There were no assistants on the mat, just Professor and a dozen kids. He asked for my help. "Don't let them kill each other."

How do you tell if kids are doing something dangerous, vs. just normal BJJ stuff? Similarly, how do you tell the difference between a kid crying because he's in pain, and crying because he's throwing a tantrum?

These things were fairly obvious to me in TKD, but you can much more easily see what's going on in TKD.

Cranking things when they don't have the submission is the big one. If he's crying in general, stop and see why - there's subtle things that could be causing it, and you don't want to take the risk of letting a roll go and someone breaking their arm because you thought they were tantrumming. And depending on the age, don't let them do chokes or leg locks.
