Hi all,
I am trying to find the origin/creater of yansu kata. There are conflicting suggestions, but nobody seems sure. Do you know? I am particularly interested in references - please let me know if you can direct me to a reliable source. The suggestions I have read are:
- Yansu may have been named after the village in which it originated in the Fukien/Fujien provice of China, and brought to Japan by Woo Yin Gue (Gogenki) of White Crane kung-fu; or
- Yansu may have been adapted from Ansan/Hansan kata perhaps by Motobu-ha in Shito-ryu.
I'd really like to know what is correct.
Also, on Woo Yin Gue (Gogenki), I wonder if anybody has any information about him other than him being a Chinese tea merchant, friends with Chojun Miyagi and someone who Mabuni trained with/under at some point. I'd love to know more, including his year of birth. Are you able to direct me to some readings?
Any help is much appreciated.
Osu!
