Wrist locks don't work?

Something interesting(read bad) happened in class tonight.

We were doing an Uke Line, and a 16 year old girl was up. everything was going fine(she did a great major leg reap on me) till her dad attacked her. She countered his haymaker with a really pretty wrist lock, which she proceeded to continue to attack with a slap on the bent wrist. She must have been a little too pumped up, cause afterwards his wrist was just at a really wrong angle. Not sure yet if it was broken or dislocated. I'll be finding that out tomorrow. I swear the girl felt worse than her dad though.

This got me thinking on the ride home. I've used wrist locks in real situations before, but every time I was bigger than my opponent. But this small girl against a much bigger, stronger, and resisting man did a lot of damage that was debilitating. So much for wrist locks being ineffective on "the street". Like everything else, they have their time and place.

Just wish it wouldn't have been tonight.

I've been noticing some of those size-difference instances where certain things work *really* well, especially those "twisty wristy" applications.

Here's hoping he's okay.
