Kihon fun

As time goes by, I find myself enjoying kihon training more and more. It is a good warming up at the beginning of class, it gets the blood going, and it also brings focus to the basic premise of martial arts (imo). Someone is trying to hit you. Do something about it.

All the rest: the locks, throws, submissions, sword techinues, etc are etensions of that 1 core principle. Do not get hit. And depending on whom your partner is, the pace and intensity can be adjusted. When I am training with the senior student (I am 2nd senior) the intensity can be much heigher than when I am going through the paces step by step with a new student who is still working hard to remember the correct sequence of actions.

It is also a very good mental break from daily routine. By focusing on repetitive exercise, you can forget about the daily problems, and mentaly relax. I readily admit that after practise, I often feel much freeer and at ease than before practise.
