Last week, Cagewriter asked our wonderful readers to pick some of the best of 2009. After many votes and much discussion, here are the winners you picked.

Breakthrough fighter of the year: This vote was one of the closest, with Jose Aldo and Jon Jones both getting a large portion of the votes. But in the end, WEC lightweight Anthony Njokuani pulled ahead with 31 percent of the vote, garnering attention for his three straight knockouts of the night.

Upset of the year: There wasn't much of a question in this one. Though I chose Mackens Semerzier over Wagnney Fabiano, 47 percent of you picked Brian Bowles beating Miguel Torres for the WEC bantamweight title at WEC 42. We'll see if Bowles' win was a fluke on March 6, as he defends his title against Dominick Cruz.

Submission of the year: No surprise here, as Toby Imada's incredible inverted triangle choke of Jorge Masvidal in Bellator pulled 35 percent of the vote, followed by Frank Mir's guillotine of Cheick Kongo at UFC 107. Bellator's new season starts in April; we'll see if they can create more exciting finishes.

Knockout of the year: Perhaps it was because Michael Bisping did so much trash-talking before the fight, or perhaps it was the way he stupidly circled toward Dan Henderson's power hand during the fight. No matter the reason, 61 percent of you picked Henderson's KO of Bisping at UFC 100 as the knockout of the year. In April, we'll see how Hendo's punching power will transfer to Strikeforce, his new home.

Thank you to everyone who voted. The winners should contact me for their prize of Cagewriter's admiration, appreciation and homebaked cookies. (Winner may choose sugar cookies with buttercream icing or chocolate-chip.)
