Hello, i just started martial arts in a school in Seattle
http://yunsmartialarts.com/
I have done Jujutsu in the past (long time ago), but here it seem more TKD based.
I started learning my forms, and it's been interesting.
However i was trying to put a "label" on the forms we are learning.
I believe the one i do now is called Kibbon Poomse, however it does not macth that
according to my google lookup.
It is no really important what it is i guess, but i'm just curious of where it comes from (Korean heritage?)

Following here is the white belt Poomse.
Let me know if you recognize it as something with a name :)

I have the yellow/green forms program here to for info:

Well i guess that doesn't ring a bell with anybody.
The curiculum also includes bamboo sticks and bamboo swords and a some Judo grappling/throws/locks.
Anyway it seem the grand master (9th Dan, not sure in what exactly) created is own program including multiple martial arts techniques.

That does not seem like a bad thing to me, or is it ?

Also when i go to the lunch time class, i am often the only students (or 2 or 3) teached by the GM, and that sure feels like a plus.

Getting solo instruction is vital to really improving in the arts. In the past I often tried to take 1 or 2 private lessons every month. I noticed it made a big difference in how quickly I progressed vs. my classmates who only attended the group practices.

Sounds like you have a good situation and should stick with it as long as you can.

Being a white belt, i greatly appreciate the solo instruction by the grand master himself, especially since i just pay for the regular monthly price.
I go at lunch time every chance i get for this reason.

I'm still wondering what the grand master 9th dan is in (which art) exactly.

Is it OK to ask him or might that question show a lack of respect ?

In any case the teaching has been great so far.

Discretion might be the better part of valor. An ugly 'secret' in the martial arts is that most 9th dans in Korean arts (the high available rank usually) are self-promoted. Unfortunately, it's just part of the marketing landscape now, and you see lots of people claiming high rank or creating a new system to get an edge over their competitors.

I'm sure your GM is an excellent martial artist. He does claim training in tae kyon which is a bit of a red flag if you're aware of the history of the sport and it's near extinction by the time the fifties had come. I noticed he's wearing a hapkido type uniform in his pictures so he probably has trained in hapkido when he live in Korea.

I see what you are saying.
He has demonstrated good technique as far as i can tell, i could only tell on the JuJitsu techniques since i practiced that in the past.
He is also very good at teaching, compared to some other BB(never seem to get confused explaining techiques in slow-mo).

In any case, he sure knows enough to teach me things at this point:)

I Hope it's not phony, but he is definitely humble and dedicated so at least it doesn't seem to be one of those Mc places i read about .. no " 2 years black belts programs" sort of things either.

i wouldn't want to comment because I wouldn't be able to tell you what kata that is just by looking at the breakdown that you have above, if there is anyway for you to get a video of it, it would be much more of a help, at least for me

Thanks, i have no video of it.
I guess i could record myself once i know how to do it somewhat right .. not yet :)
As you can see the white belt form as no kicks, and the stance is always the "walking" stance.
