Thank you to everybody who helped support the Bob White Invitational this past weekend. I think everybody had a great time and was excited to help support the Royal Family Kids Camp.

The weekend started with the Welcome Banquet at Seacliff Country Club. The banquet hall was sold out and everybody was excited and having fun. The demo team from Nihon Dojo amazed everybody with their precision and focus. Our keynote speaker Andy Hill wowed the audience with his presentation on Leadership and the lessons he learned from the legendary Coach John Wooden. We had a live auction of some great items including a signed uniform top from the greats in attendance as well as a mint condition copy of "The Journey".

We are producing a DVD of the banquet and you can pre-order your copy now at http://www.bobwhiteinvitational.com/banquetdvd.html

The next day our team was at HB High at 6AM to start setting up. By 9 the gym was packed and we kicked off the tournament with a demo from the Dragon Demo Team from Bryan Hawkins Kenpo Karate. Thanks to everybody who volunteered, we had 6 rings running and finished 300+ forms competitors by 11:30.

We were proud to have the Disney folks have a ring to run a division for Special Needs Competitors. With all the great talent in attendance, I think those Special Needs Competitors were the most inspirational part of the day.

Team Sparring started and once again 6 rings were full of competitors and the crowd was really getting into the action.

We took a quick break for halftime and as usual our good friend Paul Dye and his demo team had the crowd gasping in amazement at their focus and intensity. In addition Scott Montoya spoke to the kids in the crowd about leadership and service. I can think of nobody better to address these topics than a true hero like Scott.

Individual sparring was a big hit as well and many divisions had over 20 kids in them. The winners certainly earned their medals.

We were happy to present the Steve Hearring leadership Award to Ani Boyadjian, a student of Anto Parseghian. Special thanks to Jeff Speakman who drove in from Vegas to see the presentation as well as Edmund Parker for designing the special certificate.

We finished up by 5:30 and it was great to see everybody pitch in to help clean up the gym and tear down the mats (which were once again donated by Steve Cooper).

After the tournament we gathered at the "White House" for some dinner and to reflect on the great day.

Finally we get to the whole point of the weekend. Last night BWKS (and all of our friends) was proud to present a check to the RFKC for $50,000 (which brings our 6 year total to $261,000). This donation will pay for the Newport Mesa Camp and allow 95+ abused and abandoned kids to experience the unconditional love provided by the RFKC.

It was a tiring but rewarding weekend and everybody who was a part of it can go to bed knowing they have helped make a difference in the life of a child who needs help. I can’t even begin to list all the people who were a part of this success but Thank You to all of you.

For the kids,
Vishal Shukla
