For a long while I spent a lot of my time focusing on technique rather than strength. And as I progressed my skills improved until I had to face the new guy. That spazzy labourer type who knows nothing other than to charge you like a bull at a gate or clamp down giving you nothing to work with.

Basically he was doing it wrong.

But I struggled to overcome that. I just can't out muscle these guys and they don't give up enough movement to use their force.

Since then I have decided to use more strength and explosiveness and am resisted by everybody I train with. And what I have found is that with resistance my technique had to change.

I realised I was doing it wrong.

The sort of moves I do work in increments not long successfull flows. Throws don't just come off with a static pose but need a force to get them moving. The clamp down is now nowhere near as fearsome because my escapes account for my stuff not to come without a fight.

So where people may think I have abandoned a bit of technique I feel that my techniques have progressed into a more useful form.

Instead of learning martial arts I am learning to fight.
