Reserve Officer

For a very short period of time I was a Reserve Deputy but now I am going to a small Police Department. I am going to be a paid part time Officer in lieu of unpaid volunteer. It will be in a town of about 1,000 and very quiet. I have been military for a long time and want to do a good job and not be that "why don't you tone it down a little" guy.

Any advice on schools, gear or equipment that is really handy and so on. I want to do it right.

What sort of weapons are you allowed? Do you get them issued or do you have to purchase them?

Are they sending you to any sort of academy? Or do you have some sort of accreditation already?
