Hi,
If you want to cut to the TL:DR version, scroll down to the bottom. A few years ago, I went to see a Taiko concert. For those of you unaware of what Taiko is, its Japanese drumming. China has something similar. (Yes I'm aware that this is the CMA forum - bare with me, or skip to the TL:DR) As an interlude to the drumming, one of the team members came out and started playing a flute. It was about as long as a Jo.

(TL:DR)
This long bamboo flute is of a chinese origin - often used in meditation. However in-between musical phrases the performer did some martial arts moves, using the long flute as a weapon, and in fact hitting it on the floor quite hard.
I'd like to know what this flute is called, where might I find a similar instrument?

If you Google "shakuhachi" and "weapon" you should find some links.
