I am keen to try some new kicking combinations for use with paddle type kick targets in my classes.

Any of you out there happy to share combinations that you use?

Thought it might make for an interesting thread.

These are staples for me:
roundhouse kick, hook kick
roundhouse kick, spinning hook kick

I actually don't work combinations with the paddles much, since I think the heavy bag is better generally than both the paddle or kicking shield. Plus, it's hard mechanically for the holder to rapidly place the paddle into proper location for some types of kicks.

If you like paddles, just remember that it is all about training accuracy and not necessarily power. A fun drill is to surround one person on 3 or 4 sides with partners holding a paddle. Then you as the teacher randomly call out a technique and which side the person should kick. Like "Left Side Right Leg Crescent Kick" or "Back Side Rear Leg Roundhouse kick".

These are best done with two paddle targets. All are with the same leg unless otherwise noted.

Great training kick (not so much for practical use):

• Front leg hook + roundhouse (both head high)

(*roundhouse + hook is much more practical, however)

• (either front or rear leg) Side (midsection) + hook (head)

• Outside crescent (i.e., from outside moving in, hitting with inner side of theheal) + spinning heal (both head high) (*this is combination with one kick from each leg)

• Twist (midsection) + roundhouse (head)

• Round (midsection) + round (head high)

• Back leg front (midsection) + roundhouse (head high)

• (front leg) side + twist (head high)

• back leg roundhouse + backside kick (using one kick from each leg — found in Chung Moo ;))

That should be enough to keep them busy for a session or two ;) :)

Multiple kicks in the air are good.

2 Target kicks. Using Both legs
A. Front snap kick alternating legs both in the air.
Add third front kick with foot that did forst kick
B. Front Snap kick. Both legs same time different targets
Add third kick . Front kick up the center - either leg.
C. Front Kick - Turning/ roundhouse, alternating legs.
D. 2 Direction Kick - Simultaneous front or twist
and side kick.

Double or triple target / Mutiple same leg ariel kick.
1. Double Side Piercing kick
2. Double or triple turning / roundhouse kick
3. Front snap kick - back piercing kick

I am extremely rusty....so you got to fiddle with it as you go along.

Hook kick
round kick (the more the merrier)
, spin crescent
you can have 2 targets and practice different heights, like high -low - high or whatever.

with 2 targets (and a handy holder)

front kick front kick (each leg one)

axe axe (same

then upper cut upper cut

and downward ellbow on each side.

then you can always finish it off by putting the targets together and do the crescent kick, spinning or otherwise.

the deal is really to come with a useful combo you can actually use sparring, considering distance and so forth. And depending on the holder you have, 2 targets in different positions etc (like I said, I am rusty)

any student of ours in encouraged to make up his/her own one and three steps ans well as target drills.

Simple drills are always good.
Reaction roundhouse and axe, follow up with a technique, clinch or disengage.
Roundhouse spin roundhouse. Body and body or body and face.
Roundhouse, chasing lead up axe.
Roundhouse, chasing lead up roundhouse.
Double jump spin hook, same leg twice.
Double roundhouse, body to face.
etc.

You need to see some old footage of Kwanjang (Tim Wall) breaking with his spinning heel + jump back side kick combination :)

He had that combo down SO good they said he couldn't compete with it anymore :D

Sweet combo.

Inside crescent, outside crescent, reverse crescent, front leg roundhouse, backleg roundhouse, 360 roundhouse

If you start left leg forward you will end right leg forward so continue the combination on the other side. FUN!
