Koryu Sword Arts with Carl Long, Shihan: A Weekend of Classical Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu Training!

February 7th and 8th, 2009 – Middletown, RI

Shindokan Dojo & Newport Aikikai are once again proud to welcome Carl Long Shihan of the Jikishin-Kai International for a weekend seminar focusing on two classical Japanese sword arts. We also welcome any one interested in Japanese sword arts to join us for what will certainly be weekend of instruction of extremely high caliber. Sensei will provide instruction in the koryu traditions of Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaijutsu and Ono-ha Itto-ryu Kenjutsu. While access to instruction in the koryu sword arts is becoming more widely available, instruction at the level that will be experienced during this seminar remains an opportunity not to be missed.

An exemplary teacher of authentic Japanese and Okinawan martial Arts, Long Sensei serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Jikishin-Kai International and is the senior student of Masayuki Shimabukuro Hanshi, the 21st Generation Inheritor-Designate of our line of Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaijutsu. He is also the Coordinator of Iaido and Batto-do for the International Division of the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai. He holds the grades of 8th Dan, Shorin-ryu Karate-do; 6th Dan, Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaijutsu; 6th Dan, Shito-ryu Karate-do; 4th Dan, Shindo Muso-ryu Jojutsu; and dan grades in Aikido and Kobudo.

We are currently planning on a seminar dinner party (optional) on the evening of Saturday, February 7th, featuring a pot-luck dinner and (tentatively) Samurai Movie Night! We ask for a contribution of $10 (towards food & beverages) or a dish or beverages for the event! You’re sure to have a great time!

Please join us for a weekend of fun and of some of the finest instruction available in the Japanese sword arts available; we would love to see you there!
