A 27-year-old man was arrested on Thursday night on charges that he shot an arrow that accidentally struck a woman in the abdomen in the Bronx on Sunday, the police said.

The police said the man, Eric Collins, fired the arrow about 2 p.m. in front of a home he was moving into on Independence Avenue in the Riverdale section.

Mr. Collins, a plumber for the Westchester County government, fired the arrow at a fence, the police said, but it went through it and hit a woman
Another Archer Looses an Arrow in the City

Even more unusual is that the arrow that hit Mr. Weinberger’s house is the second one sent flying through the air in a city neighborhood in the last 10 days. And while the police are ruling out a copycat urban archer, Mr. Weinberger is not so sure.
Relaxing Is the Point, Safety Is the Watchword

It has been a rough month for New York City archery, one of the more obscure sports in this sports-obsessed city.

On March 15, a Yonkers woman dropping off a friend at a nursing home in Riverdale in the Bronx was struck in the abdomen with a nearly 31-inch-long arrow. The police said a man moving into a house next door to the nursing home fired the arrow at a fence, but the arrow went through it and hit the woman. The man, Eric Collins, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

Then, on Tuesday, someone shot an arrow at a house in Whitestone, Queens. The arrow lodged in the aluminum siding between two windows after it flew past the head of the man who lived there as he was taking the garbage out.

The police have said both episodes appeared to be accidents.

Among the city’s bow-and-arrow enthusiasts, who compete in leagues or tournaments or have taken up the sport merely as a recreation, the two episodes have been, in the words of one longtime Manhattan archer, the sort of thing that makes most archers stand around and shake their heads.
