Hey quick q!
I wanted to go to cambo. Checked some of this out on a system called bokator
but some people said it was just a mod version of the old things
anybody know??
my cambodian friends made a face when i mentioned it, they said "new"
not old.....sometimess its hard trying to figure things out.
It can confusing as hell.
I'm trying not to waste my time if its some detour into another mad scheme

HI, I think your Cambodian friends are correct!

although I am not an expert (nowhere near) I can see the
strong resemblance there is with muay boran in Thailand.
There is no lineage, which is really odd as it is presented as
a traditional style or as the ancestor to this and that.

Muay Boran is a mix of techniques taken from traditional
styles, if it really was the art of war or the traditional ancestor
of modern muay thai like people say-and like bokator is being presented-
then where is the lineage and where are the teachers?

Bokator is new. It has its roots in korean arts and was put together by sam kim sean to preserve cambodian artial arts. It will be hard to find but seek out kbach kun boran. It has historical back ground and is still very affective.

Sam kim sean is the head of the cambodian hapkido federation. What he is calling bokator is a mix of his hapkido and old techs he has catalogued from cambodian arts. Hence the black belts and all. Its not very practical. At my gym it was taught to children for demonstration purposes. My kru was a student of kim sean at one point. He also holds a 4th degree blackbelt in hapkido from kimsean. Seek out kun boran. Or pradal serey which will be a lot easier to find. In a lot of pradal serey gyms u will be taught old techniques and how to really apply them. Other than that good luck. But bokator as taught by the yuthakun khmer association will be disappointing.

Yo right on Tenzen.
My friends told me the same thing.
I got hooked up with some old guys when I go back I will meet and train with them.
The stuff on this forum is top notch and very much the truth.
The key is dont believe everything people write who might have a vested interest in selling you something.
