I have been practicing Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo for 28 years, and my Sah Bum Nim asked me last night to start preparing for my 6th Dan test. My time in grade will be up in January 2014. I doubt I'll be ready by January, but hopefully I will meet my Sah Bum Nim's standard by April. Man do I have a lot to prepare for!

You'll be fine.

My sifu just handed out invitations to test for the novice class. He got the same looks from the people he handed them to. Told them the same thing.

Just do your thing. He wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise.

But congrats none the less!

Thanks guys.

Honestly, up until 4th Dan, I felt the tests were more about me. (i.e. my knowledge, my performance, my skill).

Now, I feel it is more a reflection on my instructor (did he pass on what is necessary for me to be a 6th Dan). I want to make certain I honor him during my test. So regardless of whether I am ready, I want to be the best I can be for him.

He has retired from running the area school 2 years ago, at which time I opened a school. He has put 40 years into the art, and I want to make certain that he is satisfied that his legacy will live on through me and my students. It was about a year ago that it hit me, what a large responsibility this is. My 6th Dan test will be an opportunity for him and others in the association to see that I am fulfilling that responsibility.

Just have one of these, and you'll do just fine.

Congrats. I hope you will share what a high rank MDK TKD examination is like.
