The recent allegation that the NRA hired a spy to infiltrate several anti-gun advocacy groups in an effort to learn their secrets and strategies opens a rare window into clandestine efforts by corporations and other organizations to target the activists that oppose them.

For more than a decade, Mary McFate worked for gun-control groups, volunteering her time to organize protests, develop policy, lobby politicians and serve on their executive boards.

McFate was, according to Angus McQuilken, a board member at the anti-gun group Freedom States Alliance on which she also served, "a model of passionate advocacy for our cause."

But according to a report in Mother Jones magazine, McFate was really Mary Lou Sapone, a "research consultant" hired by the National Rifle Association to spy on the very groups who believed she was there to help.

Sapone served on the boards of the Freedom States Alliance and Ceasefire Pennsylvania, and twice ran for a board position at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, ABC News confirmed.

The NRA wouldn't even have to hire me. Just pay expenses and I'd check them out myself.

There are several bogus gun rights groups now that it turns out are funded by the Brady camp through the Joyce Foundation. They are all for Obama, even with his stance on gun control (he's for the 2nd Amendment as long as it does not apply where he feels it does not apply.)

OH THE HYPOCRISY! Someone might want to remind these morons who STARTED THE AHSA faux-gun rights group in order to fool gun-owners in to buying in to 'common-sense gun control'.

The NRA will go to any lengths? THE BRADY BUNCH WILL GO TO ANY LIE!

The AHSA, unlike the N.R.A., takes a responsible approach to firearms policy. Firearm rights must be balanced with important civic responsibilities. Hunters and shooters fully accept their civic responsibilities. The Second Amendment does not bar reasonable public policies, which are good for gun owners and the public alike. Such safety measures also ensure that all Americans will continue to enjoy the benefits of this basic and historic liberty.
