Hello all,
It's been a while since I've done anything on these forums, and I generally stuck to the Kempo boards. I've since stopped going to my old dojo at United Studios of Self Defense, with the departure of my original instructor. I wasn't impressed with the new instructor, what with how...
Mattera wasn't awarded the title of Soke, he was awarded the title of Shihan, as with DeMasco. And then I think Mattera named Paul Taylor "Shihan", from what I understand.
I brought this up with my instructor, and he gave me this "where have you been getting your information" look, and told me that Cerio was the Headmaster of United Studios until the day he died.
It seems a bit odd getting different stories from different people both inside and outside the...
He agrees with me on that viewpoint... He does think that the bickering amongst styles is pointless. But he also tells me that of everything that he's studied and other programs that he's tried, he honestly feels that USSD is the best.
A lot of people that study at USSD think that. They think that it encompases everything that any other well-known style does. That's why they think it's the best.
It's no better than the Mormon church to the Catholic church... It's all just pointless squabbling. I actually had a conversation...
Lori will give you a hard work out but she's not the best at doing the actual class. And Tony is a cool guy. I like him. And what I suggest is that you talk to either Tony or Lori and ask to work more with Tony. You should probably mention it to him, though, as to not hurt her feelings or...
I've noticed in many of the students and even (if not especially) in my instructor, that once someone is sucked into the illusion that USSD is the very best, they tend to bash on *everyone* else. I was rather surprised when I heard my instructor say "Gracies are good..." when he was reading an...
They're having me pay the $1,500 entry fee as opposed to the whole $15,000.
Anyway, I agree with Hand Sword.
Besides, there are plenty of other USSD threads.
One of these days I would enjoy trying the Grandmaster's cooking. Apparently it's wonderful. Haha... I suppose I'll have to look into Kara-Ho first. I need to talk to Sensei Hayes.
I love gaming, but as a career? I think not. I get bored with some games too easily, and the pressure of having to play them and being expected to be really good... Just not my thing. I'll stick with gaming as a hobby.
I was looking over the stuff on that website, laughing to myself as I read all of the stuff. It is practically United Studios under a different name. There are some slight differences, but not much.
Bountiful - Mr. Whittaker, 2nd dan (my instructor, a great guy and a skilled martial artist)
Layton - Mr. Benedict, 1st dan
Taylorsville - Mr. Martin, 2nd dan (probably my least favorite person in USSD at the time being.)
West Jordan - Ms. Robb, 1st dan
Orem - Mr. Perry, 4th dan (amazing)...
I recieved an email from Shihan Mendoza. He says that with his medical practice he's very busy right now and only does black belt private lessons. He suggested that I contact Sensei Hayes, so I'll probably do that. Of course, he's clear up in Ogden, which is quite a ways... But oh well.
