Let's just say I have a lot of time on my hands. I'm really liking kung fu, and want to jump in to the arts with both feet. Also, I just turned 39, and need to catch up for all the years I didn't take martial arts!
However, I will keep your comments in-mind.
Hey all,
I've been taking Kung Fu for about a month now. I really enjoy it. I also have an opportunity to take TSD in addition to Kung Fu.
I don't know much about TSD, so I was looking for input.
What are the advantages of TSD over other Arts?
Are there any drawbacks or things to watch...
I stopped in at a kung fu school about a week ago, just to observe a class in progress, and get some info on the school.
One of the masters told me to join the next class. I told him I was there just to observe, but he almost insisted I take a free trial class. So I did.
Let me say that...
Thank you all for your responses. I found a dojo! (kung fu)
I've been to two classes so far and am already hooked. The instructors are great. From what I can tell, they are genuinely interested with the students' progress, but don't push too hard.
My first class was the most intense...
Hmm....Interesting. The place I visited today seemed ok, but it's hard to tell from one brief visit. As it turns out, I have at least 3 more places to visit next week. Thanks for the heads-up!
Nothing yet....but I'm leaning toward Kung Fu. I haven't ruled out any of the other disciplines though. I still have a few more weeks of research and meeting with potential instructors.
Squid,
Congrats on quitting!
I know what you're going through, I smoked for several years. Nicorette gum, and the fact that my wife & I were expecting our first child helped me quit fast.
Isn't it funny how you can smell cigarette smoke a mile away now?
Take care.
MJS,
I'm not ruling out any other style(s). So far, Kung Fu & TKD are the two that have the most schools in my area and class availability. Now it's just a matter visiting schools and talking to instructors.
As of now, I am leaning towards Shaolin Kung Fu, due to the shear variety of skills...
Hi all,
First of all, this is a great forum. I've learned a lot just by reading the sticky threads.
Well, after much research, I've (somewhat) narrowed down which art I'm going to start studying. The main factors being my goals and available dojos in my area.
I was hoping some of you can...
Hey everybody,
I've been looking around in this site for awhile. There's a lot of great info here. I've been interested in martial arts for a long time. I'm finally going to pull the trigger and get started training within the next couple of weeks.
Glad to be here!
