    ways criminal assault their victims

It maybe look unusual, but in Xing Yi Quan people frequently step forward with simultaneous block and fast explosive strike ( Fa Jin). Usually, this short explosive strike is faster. Of course, the “reading“ the opponent is very important.

Agree. In reality, the one does not preclude the other.

    ways criminal assault their victims

Also your body position before a “surprised“ attack is very important. I always keep one hand at my stomach level and another hand close to my cheek like I think about something. But factually, I am in the perfect defensive position to block kicks to the groin and strikes to the head...

Is there a relationship between Kung Fu and Yoga?

Hi Xue Sheng, Do you continue Xing Yi practice? I hope your knee is better. I am a big fan of Sun style and, as I remember, Sun Lu Tang in his writings several times mentioned that there are some similarities between high levels of Xing Yi Quan and Daoism. Writing that could be interesting for...

    Beginning again late in life

Hi JMF552, I am 71. In 2007, I got cancer then surgery and radiation. I stopped my Xing Yi Quan because I thought that internal work might stimulate metastasis. But in 2012, cancer was back, and I decided to continue training anyway. Although I am now under chemo, I feel much better due to...

Is there a relationship between Kung Fu and Yoga?

In general, there are some internal similarities between Yoga and internal martial arts, in particular, the bone breathing techniques, increase the body awareness, system of energetic body centers (chakras and Dan Tians), and rising the energy along/inside the spinal cord through energetic...

Why do people think grappling arts always beat striking arts?

https://images.app.goo.gl/BfKgZwHSD1S78USg6 Something like this 😊 All vital areas of the upper body are closed and you are ready to block and attack by any hand.

Question on different stick fight styles

Damage is proportional to kinetic energy (1/2 mass x squared speed). So, speed is more effective killer than mass. I believe that, using a rattan cane, speed will be higher, especially along a short trajectory. Just train speed and you will be fine with any canes.

Why do people think grappling arts always beat striking arts?

Usually, a striker/boxer performs several strikes at different levels and quickly pull hands back.

Why do people think grappling arts always beat striking arts?

First unexpected strike is most dangerous. I always keep my right hand near my stomach, put the left elbow in the right palm, and touch the chin by my left fingers. This pose is like I think about something, but factually I am in the perfect defensive position. A couple of times it helped me in...

Question on different stick fight styles

Important moment is a first unexpected strike from your opponent. If your stick is very heavy, you will not defense yourself from this strike.

Question on different stick fight styles

Honestly, I do not think you cross canes with someone. Old people with canes are not aggressive. Usually, your opponent will be younger, quick and without a cane/stick but most likely with a knife or gun. In these situations, speed is a king. If you want, you can ever kill somebody using a tip...

Question on different stick fight styles

I would prefer a rattan cane. I trained some tricks with it for self defense before my abroad trip. I think self defense with a cane is more technical work than the impact power. Because of that the lighter cane is better for different applications. Internet is full with different cane...

If you do not use it, I would recommend to try self resistance exercises. They are good to gain muscles and strength without speed loss. https://blackbeltwiki.com/dynamic-tension

From my point of view, you are very sensitive to Qi flow. Some people will feel nothing. Do not worry you are gifted for internal martial styles.

    Body Measurements

Hi NewHere, If you want to gain some muscles and strength without speed decrease try to use self resistance exercises. I did them for many years and got good muscles comparable with weight lifting. They also increase body awareness, flexibility, and brain-muscle connection. If you are...

Qi/Chi masters: why, when we talk about real fight, QI is useless?

As I‘ve wrote, I practice Xing Yi where strike techniques predominate. I think heavy Qi is useful for internal styles and low effective for others. But Qi can energize muscles and how you want to use this effect is up to you.

Qi/Chi masters: why, when we talk about real fight, QI is useless?

Just from my experience in Xing Yi Quan, Qi feeling in the body can increase body awareness, unification, intention, and smoothness of movements. As a result, strike power and speed also increase. There are different feelings of Qi in the body like lightness, warming, electricity… and heaviness...

SHEEESH!!!! I can't TAKE it anymore

I think you could try to train the fists without leg movements, using Che Xing Yi style. They use sharp body rotation for Fa Jin emission. It is fast and powerful.

What is Chi - Ki - Qi?

Yes, this is very old thread. I only would like to share some idea (not mine) that the real “Qi channels“ are located in the brain not in the body. Acupuncture points and Qi channels in the body are only projections of these brain “channels” or connections between neuronal groups at different...
