For handguns, it is the CZ P01. I had one, which was dead reliable and accurate, and stupidly sold it so that I could buy an HK VP9. After one range session, I sold the VP9 and bought another P01. The ergos are so good that it sits perfectly in the hand without even trying. It's a fantastic...
There is no reason that you cannot learn multiple martial arts simultaneously. Having said that, what would seem to make the most sense would be to pick arts that do not overlap in purpose, range, etc. As someone noted earlier, studying BJJ and Boxing at the same time, or Karate and Judo, FMA...
It happened to her friend, and she shared it with me. And I am sure that things can get blown out of proportion, but that does not mean that they don't happen either. Many of us are training MA for a scenario that is statistically very unlikely for the average person, but we still train. This...
A friend of mine just shared this, and I thought worth spreading around. It's scary as heck, and every parent's fear, but it's better to have knowledge of how they operate (at least one of the ways).

For one who is interested in certifications more related to the Human Performance side of things, I would recommend looking into the following:
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist - National Strength and Conditioning Association - Become a Certified Strength and Conditioning...
There are many options for fitness certifications, but few that go through the process for accreditation through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. Both ACSM and NSCA do.
ICE : NCCA Accreditation
They are roughly the same in regards to their Personal Training certs. In addition, ACSM's certs are fantastic for clinical settings, and you are correct in regards to the CSCS exam for NSCA. I am heavily involved in both organizations, have been for many years now. ACSM and NSCA are really...
There are many certification options, but the two most reputable Personal Training Certifications are as follows:
- NSCA Certified Personal Trainer - Become an NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®)
- ACSM Certified Personal Trainer - Personal Trainer Certification | ACSM
They are mechanically pretty simple, and can be pulled off against an unskilled opponent without too much difficulty if you train them sufficiently. Of course, the amount of time and dedication that they get to really work on that is debatable.
You're in Michigan it looks like, so it might not matter so much, but I found the StealthGear to be every bit as comfortable as the AlienGear out of the box, but you don't get the accumulation of sweat behind it. It's obviously up to you, but I thought I would mention it.
Cheers!
I haven't seen it the way you describe in any of the places I have trained unless the fancy version was being shown as a demo, but that is not a criticism, just an observation. We start clean and simple and then build on that later. Again, it's pretty hard to get a disarm if you can't even get...
Good points. I've studied a few different FMA systems now, some more focused on the knife than others (Modern Arnis, a bit of Sayoc Kali, Lacoste-Inosanto Kali, Pekiti Tirsia Kali - PTI, and now Pekiti Tirsia Kali - PTKGO). Most of what I have seen with the knife, either in those systems, or...
Like many of you, I've tried a number of options
For leather, Erik at HBE Leatherworks does great stuff.
H.B.E. Specialty LeatherWorks
For synthetic, I prefer StealthGear, particularly in the deep South with as hot as it gets. I've tried Aliengear, Comp-tac, etc. and I really like the...
My apologies for any confusion. I wasn't actually referring to legality. I was referring to perception on the part of any LEO who may end up investigating a defensive situation, or any jury that may be deciding on legality should it ever come down to that. It would be very easy for a LEO to...
The Karambit does have interesting applications. However, there are a couple of concerns I do have with it. Prior to that, let me say that I pray to God that I never have to use a knife (or any tool, martial art, etc.) for defensive purposes. I hope this all stays purely...
My experience has actually been the other way around. Typically, when someone says that they train Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, they are likely to have maintained the original self-defense curriculum. That does not mean that they don't compete, because they often do. Some of this depends a bit on the...
We are not talking about Royce. If you simply take his martial arts claims alone, we have a problem. If you add everything else in, we have a pathological liar who shouldn't be allowed to teach anyone anything.
I didn't come up with it at all. I merely shared what someone else had done. I'm...
