I always liked the telescopic baton, I got a little rush opening it, brought out the youth in me. I still love the sound of opening that bad boy. Like I love the sound of a shotgun jacking.
Unfortunately, the telescopic batons don't work well. Especially against crazy or a highly motivated...
I prefer a job doing nothing. I know it's a brag, but I'm really good at doing nothing. I've tried my best to elevate doing nothing to an art form.
When I say "job" I'm referring to employment that allowed me to do full time Martial Arts. I worked in a sub shop for a year and half. Know how...
We used to do a lot of variations of sparring. The student feedback over the years was positive, most said it helped them a great deal. Said it was enjoyable, too.
We did sport sparring (points) kickboxing, boxing, standup into grappling, we did what we called the subtraction game, we sparred...
What I think most people misunderstand about strength training is - an instructor has to know how to teach somebody how they can utilize their strength within their Martial Art framework. Not everybody can.
Strength is good, speed is good. Timing, patience and not giving a damn about who or...
I'm good for now. I'll have to have my buddy come over and show me sometime. I have one computer that I do not even have connected to the internet, I only use it for writing.
My old computer died recently. May it Rest In Peace. And I have an Apple computer, the biggest piece of ship that was...
So you need software for that? What kind of software?
I'm not even sure what software is. And if anyone wants to make fun of me for that, go ahead. But also, F.U. :)
I think if a guy was going to teach some young men some things about fighting, coming here to a Martial Arts site to ask for some suggestions on what to teach - that makes perfect sense to me. Where else should he go, to a used car site?
@Cornfed. Go getum, brother. Help those boys, I'm sure...
Start the timer....!
Through Martial Arts training....
Met my wife.
Met some of my best friends of fifty years.
Landed every single good job I've ever had.
Made me patient with a-holes.
Allowed me to travel.
Allowed me to change other people's lives.
And their children, taught them too.
Saved...
@Tony Dismukes, thanks for the vid. I hope against hope that you do a couple dozen more. On anything you please.
Of course it difficult to compare to the random twenty year old guy filming himself throwing sidekicks in his room so we can all see how cool he is.
If a writer comes up with an original idea, really original, you could throw the damn script out the window on the 405 and somebody will find it.
The reason "original" scripts are so difficult to come up with is there are only so many types of stories. And these days, as opposed to say fifty...
Unless we're speaking about a documentary, comparing movies to martial arts is kind of odd. But I guess it gives us another thing to talk about. Which is a good thing.
I've spent a fair amount of time in Hollywood, I've written a few really bad martial arts movies that were purchased and...
Let me say that I don't mind at all, honestly I don't, I give you my word on that. But I might as well have been reading a post written in Swahili. I'm somewhat awed. But I don't understand what I'm awed at.
Sometimes it's tough being from another generation. Then when I realize you are...
I've enjoyed standup for as long as I can remember. And I was always a fan of Ron White. I don't think I'll ever read/hear the "fix stupid" line in anyone else's voice ever again. :)
Not everyone can teach, regardless of how talented they are. But they can help IF they wanted to. Everyone helped, every single one of them over forty years.
But it went two ways. Once you made it to green belt, if you wanted a private lesson you got it. For free. I'd teach the private lesson...
MetalBoar, one of the things I did was - every four months or so, all the kids from the kids class trained with the adult class. What the students of the adult class did was help all the kids. And taught them to help other new kids.
Worked like a charm.
Oh, man, I could write a book on it. I have one high maintenance friend. (the only one) Grew up a trust fund kid and now he's a male Karen.
I just got invited to an art show in L.A, all expenses paid, a big deal from a well known person that I like.
Then my high maintenance friend found out...
You said a mouthful about slipping and falling. I was headed into work one day, my hands full of food containers for a Christmas party. Slipped on some black ice, went up in the air, and thankfully, broke my fall when I hit the cement. Only got a sore hand from the hard slap to the frozen...
For us, it's always been on a strict case by case scenario. With the input of their parent(s) when applicable.
It was easy for us because we had a large student body with a lot of black belts. Everyone in the adult class took all white belts and any newbie youngster under their very experienced...
Several years ago a group of us were practicing this in a buddy's car. We broke the passenger seat. He's still a little bit pissed. So's his girlfriend.
We're still trying not to laugh.:)
It's been raining for over a week. We got four inches of rain yesterday alone, and it's still raining. Everything I own is wet, my hats, my shoes, my dog.
I looked up the emergency procedures to follow in the Maui Safety Guide.
"Roll a fattie, pour a glass of red, have a BLT and a bowl of...
We used to do the slap competition all the time. But we were in the ninth grade at the time. It was fun....because we were stupid kids and anything grownups thought stupid, we were all over.
But it sucked then and I'll bet it still sucks now.
