I am all for some sparring or Randori, but I personally think training for competition is quite different than training to survive. There is a huge difference in mindset. Yes I agree that many techniques of most arts can be used in competition and in one form or another we can see some of them...
I have NOT taken the test, but I ask... why would you want that? I don't think you will get much from the videos, other than a wow factor. I would think it is similar to watching training videos or viewing pictures, you won't truly understand what is going on unless you have already...
I personally think one should supplement their Bujinkan reading with other martial related works. These are a few books that I own and I think are enriching to my budo. However, they are not required, rather, they are merely personal suggestions.
The Art of War, Sun Tzu
The Book of Five Rings...
We are allowed to bring water. But we keep it out of the training area. Also, we can go and get it without having all the formalities. However, out of respect to our training partners, we don't just drop out in the middle of training with them, rather wait for an opening... :)
Yes, he showed discipline and restraint. But that discipline and restraint is best represented when he doesn't attack someone because they were talking smack. IMO, it is different when it comes to self defense. IMO, in those moments, the discipline and restraint is defending one's self and...
Slow down John Wayne.... :p
Yes it is wrong to pine for it.
Yes, if your intentions are no more righteous (not religious) than theirs was. Ego and vengeance fouls up many people and can cause more harm to self than good.
Yes "if it is a WANT and not a need". It is OK to use violence, if...
I won't advise you on how to handle this with your son. However, I will tell you this...
I have told my 13yo son, regardless of the school policies, he is to do only what is necessary to stop the attack and mitigate bodily harm to himself, no more, no less.
When he was little (elementary...
I have trained many times with folks in parks, sometimes as instructor and always as a student. Being that you have no training in BBT, I am sure there is a lot the instructor can offer you. It doesn't hurt to find out more about his teacher. Either way, see if he will let you train a class...
First, I wouldn't be here LOL.
Second, if the government were to step in and try to control it, they would have to change the business world from capitalism to something else more Orwellian. At the same time our technological advances work against our very basic physical needs. Aside from...
Regarding lunge punches, I am sure there are several threads on the topic in this forum that you may want to search for. They pretty much cover the basics of what is correct, not correct, over committed, sloppy kamae, etc. Feel free to search around.
It is a great question, but really, it...
Sorry, I was playing around the order of things. It really doesn't matter which hand or which foot is forward, the cut or stab comes FIRST and the step follows as part of ONE motion (if necessary).
He is right, many students step first then stab and some stab first and then step, but either...
Just let it go... Obviously the person who produced the videos has an elementary school level of understanding about self defense and martial arts, more specifically Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu.
I don't give them much thought. I "KNOW" that BBT works and is all that matters to me.
Ice cream containers don't hang around in our freezer long enough to read them. :p That is why I just don't buy it. I would rather go get a small ice cream somewhere (portion control). LOL
Anyway, that jail should patent their weight loss program! :p The guy should be happy he has lost...
On the subject of body armor, does those vests stop high powered rifle bullets or just shrapnel and low velocity rounds? I didn't think they stopped things like the 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, and other high velocity rounds such as .30-06, 7mm mags, .375h&h, .308, .243, .223 (M-16), and stuff like that...
No doubt. However, with all that technology, they still have to fight door to door in Iraq. Hmmmmm.....
Yes we are. But less face it, when people are having a hard time getting basic necessities, they will do drastic things. It really wouldn't take much to send the world we know into chaos...
Yes, I saw that. Here are a couple of links I was reading (coincidentally) before seeing this thread.
Rice Rationing
More Rice Rationing
Encouraging Stockpiling
I complete disagree! How so. You can't go it along like "rambo"... again that is the movies. People will band together, there is strength in numbers (especially trained with weapons).
Your reasons are your own and I think they have possibly jaded your views about those that have guns. Of...
Actually, that would be the knee jerk remedy to the chaos. But at that point it is too late for martial law if the people are organized. Unfortunately, I don't think the landscape will look very nice as different factions attempt to seize control of various regions or areas.
I would...
