Hand and foot arrive at the same time, or foot arrive first and hand arrive later?
I would say your timing is right. Punching before the foot lands, utilizes your body weight behind the punch.

Analysis on forms
I think moving in form is important, but not a particular form. It is a lot more interesting than standing there kicking over, and over, and it is more dynamic than repeating a single tech idea.

It is the same idea, but you flick out your foot, and precede the landing with the lunge punch.

Are so-called traditional martial arts dumbed down (even when practised properly in Asia)?
I would say that is true of the canteen, and possibly the stirrup, but, I think they mostly met, fought, and stole each other's ideas.

I've seen a lot of bad finger set, but the only reason to limit the idea, is because the teacher wants to teach boxing ideas, as a rule.

It will never be the same on both sides, but you can learn a lot from trying.
