I'm doing Boxing right now outside of my Wing Chun studies.
I plan to do many more years of sparring and maybe even do some amateur stuff.
The conditioning is awesome.
I always knew Stallone's boxing experience was not the true selling point of the "Rocky" movies. IT was more of the principles he tried to install in his audience. The one that stands out the most to me was the "Go the distance" mentality. To be the underdog and still put all your heart and...
I'm surprised no one mentioned the Rocky series.
Anyhoo, I saw the movie "Girlfight" and loved it. It starred Michelle Rodriques or something.
Theres another movie with Wesley Snipes and it had to do with prison boxing.
IT is true. Just like in learning how to cook a recipe.
Say I am a head chef and set out to teach about 20 students the methods of cooking..... curry goat w/rice and peas.
Now I have my own preferred methods of cooking this dish so I show the students how to do it. First I show the whole...
I have a question relating two Kali schools.
1) Sayoc Kali
2)Kali De Leon.
Which one is a better school to train under? Which is less commercialized, less politics, more realistic knife/weapons training?
I always here stuff about Sayoc Kali. Sayoc to me seems to have the best...
Bigger? Badder? Than you?
What can you do but not play fair? I mean if he is bigger and badder than you, AND can fight....
What choices do you have but to hit him in the testicles? Bite his ears off?
Pick up a stick and beat him with it. Stab him! If it comes to it! Throw dirt into his...
I think why certain famous boxers (like Tyson) hire personal body guards is because of two main obvious reasons.
1) People like Mike Tyson are more than just boxers, they are celebrity figures. There will always be people (even jerks and idiots who want to attack him) who watch his every...
Hello again friends ;)
I have yet another question.
Based first on observations/experiences.
I have noticed I respond differently to a person who suddenly jumps out of a corner and surprises me (or when someone suddenly attacks me or runs up from behind) VS when a friend playfully jabs at...
I am in a work situation where a female employee (lets call her kim) constantly attempts to take credit away from me every time i contribute. Kim and I work on the same project. YEars before i would have exploded at people like her and expose their schemes. This of course would get me suspended...
Ever had someone suddenly pull out a knife or 2 on you? What was your first reaction? I'm sure it was different from when someone approached you with their fist. That sudden "panic" reaction you get when someone threatens you with blades is very common in people who are not experienced with...
A more practical or realistic approach to bladed situations would be to study and learn from say Sayoc Kali or something. Even than, a good teacher would tell you there are no promises or guarentee's if someone attacks you with a knife. Number one thing they will teach you in Kali is that...
I'd say by observing the first example in the clip, it seems very realistic how she reacted as a student of the Wing Chun sciences. I am only referring to her second nature timing based on a lot of training and conditioning. Wing Chun teaches and conditions a lot of sensitivity and "feeeel"...
Though the Nature Boy is not technically the best skilled fighter around, I'd have to say he was one of the most clever "wrestler'" in entertainment wrestling. THis man had it all, eye pokes/rakes, ball punches, slaps, etc lol :)
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
In a life and death situation (say in a secluded alley with more than 2 guys or in a sexual assault situation)
If your attacker is bigger than you, stronger than you, and even faster
than you... and all the hits you do to his body and face do not amount to much, and the nuts and throat are...
It also really depends. If your root teacher/Sifu is the jealous type or one who assumes a lot, i personally believe you should wait a bit b4 telling him/her you are cross training in another science.
I personally would wait a while b4 telling my Sifu. I would not rush the process. Just my...
For me Wing Chun has helped me develope patience and to "feel" a situation out more than to over analyze it. Wing Chun has also taught me how to question what is being taught and figure out it's purpose/applications + when and where it can be applied. Through Wing Chun I have learned to relax...
Can you guys give a list and some info on Vietnamese arts that are not too common in the Country? Are there martial sciences in Vietnam that resemble Muay Thai or Wing Chun? What about blade and stick arts like they do in the Philippines?
I read Billy Joel's bio and it states that he was a successful Golden Gloves fighter back in the days. So I googled imaged for his boxing day pics but, I can't find any!
I am surprised he used to be a boxer, I don't hear of too many singers who used to be boxers.
Well there is 50 Cent but, I...
I feel it can be beneficial to cross train with another science or so as long as it does not interfere or disrupt your "root" martial science.
If the other science compliments with your original style and makes YOU a better fighter, whats so wrong with that?
Sure your Sifu is your...
lol, apparently Mike Tyson knows how to use his legs too!!! I remember there was an incident where he knee'd someone in the privates and punched out the person in a parking lot or something.
Mike Tyson= a decent ring boxer who was once an awesome boxer
Mike Tyson= an efficient street...
I'm no expert but, the first advice that came from my head is
1) PATIENCE
the 2nd) thing is
REPETITION
and the 3rd) is to not question your Sifu but question what he teaches and learn to understand what is being taught.
Alright just out of curiousity, I have 2 questions here. Whoever wants to reply can, whoever does not want to also has that right.
so here
1) Who thinks they can take on Mike Tyson here? In a real street fight.
or in the ring.
2) Who would win, Manny Pacman or Eric Morales Vs...
Wow so you are from L.A. How are things down there in the city of angels?
Is all that politics still going on? Are Mexicans and Blacks still at odds with one another? Are the streets safer?
What about the weather? lol
CYA
Yeah, I've heard 2 big guys get discouraged from taking Wing Chun because they were too "big" and how they would not do too well. The two guys though, being the type who don't allow others to keep them down didn't listen to this "advice"
and stuck with Wing Chun for at least 4 years and boy...
