Yeah... No. Not referring to political politics. More to be precise... Its about the in-house or in-art drama of this - - verses that master's views on x y z, or a myriad of a thousand other BS non technical to the art itself... Why so and so got passed over for 6th Dan, when so and so bought...

When you are unable to roll, due to injury...

Actually, I (@6'4" ) was the bigger of us two. I had kept him at bay for about four minutes with my long legs, but when he finally got by.... He came down like an avalanche. I told him, take it easy, its my first day rolling. Lol.

When you are unable to roll, due to injury...

So the xrays came back. Doc says #7, and #8 ribs (Right side) are broken. Its crazy to think, someone taking side control aggressively can lead to broken ribs. I heard/felt it when it happened and stopped the roll.

When you are unable to roll, due to injury...

What do you personally do, to continue training, if you cannot roll with others. Like what are you doing on the mats if you cannot handle the body weight of another person in a roll. I am thinking ribs type injury.

working my way toards rabbid frothy mouthed Brazilian JJ fanaticism. It will be about 5 or 6 weeks before I get to roll again, says the Doc. Why so weak, oh my ribs. getting sidekicked is fine, but one guy bellyflops into side control, and I am on the bench! drat, and double drat!

Went to the dark side. bjj

Precisely! That is exactly the very point. There isn't much, like there is in KMA.... Or any other "2000 year old" art, for the matter.

Yeah... But no. I have enough kma in TSD for a lifetime, and there is only one kma left that I would want to train... GongKwon Yusul. I know enough about tkd, to see what lies in wait, down the road. Sorry, I won't join. Not my Monkees, not my circus. (My TSD Master is also a 4th Dan in TKD.)...

So... My Okinawan karate dojo closed for covid a while ago. I found myself going a little crazy because there was no classes. I missed my peoples. (Sad cryings sounds) Given that there are not a lot of dojo's teaching what I really wanted to learn in the area, I found myself looking at two...

    Olympic Karate KO.

Was just coming to post this. Darn it Bill! You beat me to the punch. While I have been stung in karate tournaments with a DQ for KOs.... It comes down to karatedo. The Japanese "art" that is more concerned with perfect form, and disregards the Imi, or meaning/function/Rationale of 'Te. The...

Or protecting his centerline and gates. Where's his posture/structure? Is it the case that, when he loses his cool and composure, that he reverts to brawling? Of what use is a martial art that evaporates in the moment of stress? If your art is so well trained it should just flow like water. I...

The cost of Ego, disrespect, and the failure of teachers and students.

I didn't use the word assault. I used the word aggression. The deep end of the aggression pool is murder or homicide. It is understood by mma practitioners that they are trying to establish physical dominance during a match up without ruining their name and career with a homicide. After all...

The cost of Ego, disrespect, and the failure of teachers and students.

There is a world of difference between consensual competitive combatant sport and responding to non consensual physical aggression. There is a huge skill gap between the two. It follows that different tools and skills are called for to address their different but correlated goals/objectives.

Some youngster shows up at a backyard training for Wing Chun, with poor manners, criticizes the teacher and it looks like he provoked the teacher with a head butt. The teacher let his ego become wounded and missed the opportunity to teach the student. His fighting didn't look like Wing Chun at...

One punch and knock your opponent out

Tell me though. A prime Tyson, George Foreman or Earnie Shavers... You think a small wrestler is going to successful shoot them. I would bet big money on those three. One thing that people miss out on about UFC is they cherry picked the strikers and heavily weighed the deck in favor of the...

One punch and knock your opponent out

There is a whole system of martial arts that employ drinking. And relaxation of gross muscle tone and the neck and spine help give them more staying power in a fight. None of them (the KO dudes) were staggering when they came out. And these are Russians for crying out loud. They are a...

One punch and knock your opponent out

No. Look back at the OP question. That is the context. Kungfu Wang was asking "if you can train to KO with one hit, is training grappling even necessary, if your striking game is that strong?" Shouldn't all ones efforts go towards trying to reach a very high bar. A lot of people were scoffing...
