    Finding JKD in New Zealand

No luck in finding any JKD - many years on! I have been training Wing Chun under Sifu Dana Wong since 1999. I am still on the look out for cross-training ideas, merging of skills etc, and would still love to find a competent JKD instructor. I am based on the Kapiti Coast (45 min north of...

    sparring vs chi sau

Personally, I think there is not enough actual sparring in most WC clubs. The reason I say this is chi sao is fantastic for checking energy, find holes, set ups etc, however what is missing (for me) is that you don't learn how to close the gap (ie you start connected), and if you were to have a...

    wing chun and wing tsun

William Chueng, although he potentially has questionable ethics, I do believe "coined-the-phrase" Traditional Wing Chun. Not trademarked, however as I understand it, most people in the know understand Traditional Wing Chun as his "version". In my humble opinion, this is how I understand the...

    Upcoming Marvel Comics Movies.

Elecktra was ok... Enjoyed X-Men 2. Really liked Constintine (sp - not Marvel obviously) .. Spiderman 2 was entertaining, along with the blade ones.. Hulk, bad. X-Men 1, mildly disappointing. Spiderman 1, neutral. Here's a site that is quite informative...

Continuing training / chi sao by your self!

Thanks. I currently teach a small beginners class - it started out for this very reason - to have someone to train with! But I think that the wooden dummy is a very good idea, visit my teacher when it is suitable (to get more stuff / get told what I need to work on before getting new stuff)...

    Why Tai Chi ?

I must say, I considered Tai Chi a bit more on the "health" side that the "fight" side... then I had a full contact match with one. Ow.

    Finding JKD in New Zealand

Hi all, I live in Wellington, New Zealand. As we are a small country, we don't traditionally make much noise (with the exception of Lord of the Rings recently I guess), so don't attract some of the great things. Finding someone who can teach JKD here is proving to be very difficult. Any ideas...

Continuing training / chi sao by your self!

Hi all, thought I'd vent some frustration... My teacher lives overseas, and I have pretty much no one in NZ (that is closer than 8 hours away!) to really learn more from - and practice chi sao. Love to hear your thoughts, or if you have been / are in a similar situation. What did you do...

Bruce Lee, Jun Fan Gung Fu/Wing Chun

Thanks - this was a very interesting thread! Every single art has it's issues, as well as it's benefits. I think that even though Bruce's Wing Chun training wasn't complete, he knew very well the overall concept. Wing Chun's main benefit (to me) is chi sao, and the forms are absolutely...
