New car shopping: compact, premium, fun-to-drive, $30k

My father has an F350 Super Duty with the International Harvester diesel engine. It was given to him by a friend of his because the guy didn’t want to fix it and it had paid for itself 5x over. It had 185k miles on it. My father did the repairs, which were labor intensive and not much in parts...

Any time you laugh, you win

@jobo and @Steve I hope you both realize the picture and percentages you’re arguing over are a joke.

New car shopping: compact, premium, fun-to-drive, $30k

Service/business vehicles are a different thing. A friend of mine leases his work pickup truck because it makes more financial sense somehow. Tax write offs, maintenance costs, stuff like that. His brother is his accountant and crunches his numbers constantly. His truck doesn’t take a beating...

New car shopping: compact, premium, fun-to-drive, $30k

People lease cars for a few years. The returned cars get sold. Or people trade their car in for the newest model. Happens all the time. Most used cars on dealer lots are former lease vehicles. As far as the rest of your post... yeah... I just don’t know what to say...

New car shopping: compact, premium, fun-to-drive, $30k

Everyone has to do whatever makes them happy. For me, it’s not about “not treating myself nicer.” It’s the opposite, actually. For the approximately $24k I spent on my wife’s Highlander, nothing brand new was nearly as good. As Miltov (OP) was saying, $30k for a brand new Audi A3 or a 2-3 year...

New car shopping: compact, premium, fun-to-drive, $30k

I’ll never buy a car brand new. Way too much of a financial hit, and you get so much more car for your money buying used. I look for something 2-3 years old with around 30k miles or less, and certified used. Quite often the certified used cars have a longer warranty than new ones. In February I...

Why some people still don't want to wear mask?

This is pretty much what I wear while working... I really want to sneak out a whole gowning setup and wear it to a store just to see reactions. Some will most likely run away from me, thinking I’m the most contagious person on the face of the earth. Others will most likely run to me asking...

If you had a time machine that could travel into the past, what era would you visit?

Only if I got to go in a flying Delorean. And I’d definitely buy a Gray’s Sports Almanac. Only I’d be responsible and live low key.

If you had a time machine that could travel into the past, what era would you visit?

Seeing it happen in real time is where it’s at. It’s like watching videos of sports from previous eras. It definitely loses something. I’ve seen videos of guys Muhammad Ali, Wilt Chamberlain, Babe Ruth, etc play. There’s no real atmosphere to it like watching something broadcast live. Stuff that...

During pandemic lockdown have you found any new hobbies or things that you really enjoy doing?

Maybe I should define furniture... End tables, console tables, night stands, stuff like that. Bed frame too, although it won’t be weight bearing as my current bed frame (adjustable bed) has legs and is fully supported; the one I’ll make will simply go around it for aesthetics. No couches...

If you had a time machine that could travel into the past, what era would you visit?

Honestly, every time I think of a bygone era, I think life must’ve been pretty miserable. Electricity, bathing, sanitation, illnesses, transportation, and on and on. I guess that’s the pessimist in me. I’d like to visit them for a short stay though. I think I’d start by following Jesus around...

During pandemic lockdown have you found any new hobbies or things that you really enjoy doing?

Alabama is one of the handful of states I haven’t been to. And in New Orleans, I’m not talking about high-end eateries like Emril’s (which was excellent), but the local hole-in-the-wall type places. I’d love a Po’ Boy right now. A fried oyster or alligator Po’ Boy would so hit the spot...

During pandemic lockdown have you found any new hobbies or things that you really enjoy doing?

Sounds like a great community. I want to get rolling and folding table saw and miter saw stands. They’re just too expensive to justify for me. I got a hell of a good deal on my miter saw - $79 for a hitachi 10” saw brand new at Lowe’s. It’s currently $175. The stand would easily cost more than...

During pandemic lockdown have you found any new hobbies or things that you really enjoy doing?

Finishing up on cleaning out the garage. Hopefully by the end of my weekend (Wednesday). Everything got thrown in there when we bought the house in November. Once that’s done, I can finally set up the wood shop. I’ve got to make a dog house for the puppy we’re getting mid October. Then some odd...

Why some people still don't want to wear mask?

There are some people out there who hope everything a certain somebody does fails. Somehow they don’t realize that when unsaid guy fails, everyone fails right along with him. I wasn’t a fan of 43 in any way. I would’ve done almost everything the opposite way. But I never wanted him nor anyone...

Why some people still don't want to wear mask?

I did a drive through test. She went so far up and down my nose, and it burned. Then I saw her get another pipe cleaner. I said “you’ve got to do the other too, don’t you?” You could see the grin under the mask while she nodded yes. I said “hurry up before I take off.” The second one was worse...

New Orleans has the best food I’ve ever eaten. Not even close.

Why some people still don't want to wear mask?

I think it’ll be quite some time after it’s all said and done before the statistics really tell the full story of infection rate, numbers, death toll, et al. Possibly a few years. Things change way too much in real time to get truly accurate statistics. What the numbers and research tell us...

Why some people still don't want to wear mask?

What makes things complicated is that people with antibodies are testing positive months later. Example... My brother in law is a barber. He needed to take a Covid test to open his shop. On a Sunday he was told he tested positive for antibodies, and negative for the active virus. Then he gets a...

During pandemic lockdown have you found any new hobbies or things that you really enjoy doing?

Home Depot would be a great date night. We’d spend a couple hundred dollars on Milwaukee tools and materials to make stuff. I’d be the only one on a date though. She’d consider it anything other than a date. I guess I really do have some red neck in me :)

How is the stop-format kumite done in training without a referee?

An acquaintance of mine teaches defensive tactics at the local police academy. He’s had a handful of guys with a TKD background stop after hitting someone once. When asked why they stopped, one guy said “it was a point.” The instructor then replied “do you see a f’ing scoreboard?”

Why some people still don't want to wear mask?

Trust me, not all of the idiots support the same party. I live in a heavily other party state and area, and there’s plenty of idiots not wearing them and arguing about it who aren’t red. They may be louder or covered more by the media, but they’re not the only idiots. Not by a long shot...

Why some people still don't want to wear mask?

Not all states have a seatbelt law. And motorcycle helmet law. They consider it a freedom issue. New Hampshire doesn’t have them. State motto is Live Free or Die. It’s on their license plates, made by people in prison ;)
