    Tell me some McDojo mantras!

Since i was just writing this for fun, i guess i'll disclose the basic idea here. And its starting to get a bit too crazy for me to take it seriously and continue. So, the story starts with a *very* long monologue by Sensei Dave - At the end of the intro, he calls up one of his students, a big...

    Tell me some McDojo mantras!

Perfect! We can make you a street lethal black belt killing machine for the low, limited time only cost of $125 per week. This gets you a 2-3 classes, and special park training with Sensei Dave at least once a month. Ah, i hope im not stepping on anyones toes by deliberately trying to make the...

    Tell me some McDojo mantras!

I'm trying to write a bit of satire, because i'm quite ill and don't have anything else to do. So! All i've been able to come up with so far is talking about being the most street lethal fighting style on the face of the planet. Give me ideas, while i re-watch Enter The Dojo! :D PS: Hi...

    Sport And TMA....Again

Ill just throw in that there are more broken hands in MMA than you might expect with their wraps and gloves. Sorta makes me think, anyway.

    Which should be first?

At school, i only ever heard of one person throwing a punch. Everyone else threw people down then kicked them. I guess that may be an exception and not the rule, but absolutes dont always hold :)

    Sport And TMA....Again

Being ambushed takes away alot of your options and doesnt give you a chance to do your thing. I misread ballen as saying sucker punch when he literally meant lucky punch. Thats my bad. So from the ground after being put down, certain skills become more useful in that situation. Im inclined to...

    Which should be first?

Alternatively, i can tell you how to tackle someone in a couple of sentences and youll probably be able to do it right away. And if you stay upright and go low, you can call it a double leg :P

    Sport And TMA....Again

Ill bite. Id argue that a sucker punch or tackle or whatever sort of precludes a whole lot of things. But after you get sucker punched or tackled, i cant help but think itd be nice to have some experience, whether its through an art of a course or grabbing a friend and figuring it out or...

    Which should be first?

Striking beats grappling if you can strike before youre grappled, grappling beats striking if you can grapple before youre struck. Besides the personal preferences of the individual, in my opinion, striking applies to a broader range of situations, especially if its the first thing youre ever...

    Have you seen this?

1: Kids say all kinds of things, comparable to what youd hear at a yankees game, to each other. 2: Anything that involves hitting or grappling can be viewed as teaching people to rape. 3: Hes clutching at straws. Fly swatter deployed, butt struck and bug busted. :)

miyamoto mushashi: how to perceive intention of your opponent

Because i wanted to. Thats sorta like questioning why im on a MA forum when i stopped doing MA earlier this year. The bold part? That was my point, and what i was saying. Im not sure how you missed that. :) To reitterate, analyzing someone at the time, as i understand it, means trying to work...

miyamoto mushashi: how to perceive intention of your opponent

It means i tried to read the book of five rings and wasnt interested. :) Im not sure which of us youre addressing, but if youre addressing me, i guess i just dont see how the time youre being beaten senseless, stabbed, or shot is the time to try and analyze someone, as opposed to doing...

You mean in order to be a first degree blackbelt you need to be impervious to harm? Wow. Thats a high bar.

    Philosophy in the martial arts

Speaking generally: Patience is really bad if you need to do something RIGHT NOW. Sitting around waiting for a perfect opportunity thats never going to come doesnt help you. Making opportunities and seeing the ones you already have is more useful.

One thing though: If i drop a baseball bat off a tall building and it lands on someones head... not good at all. If i drop a whip off a tall building and it lands on someones head, thats a little disconcerting.

Question on recognizing a sexual predator in the dojang????

Theyre qualified to work with those hunches, though. If you have a negative predisposition towards someones behavior (cheating on wife = sexual predator), its easy to go straight to a confirmation bias.

First, to Chris, yeah, im not a Musashi follower. That kind of literature doesnt interest me, so i lack experience in interpreting it :) Yeah.

Soft vs Hard Martial Arts Discussion

Which would happen drastically more efficiently if you just went and did fitness. With martial arts, if you just wanna learn ways to do stuff to people youd do well to not waste learning time on workouts. You can do that seperately, and to greater effect.

Question on recognizing a sexual predator in the dojang????

First off, his marriage is NOT YOUR PROBLEM and if she is a CONSENTING ADULT, back off. If him and his wife wind up in a divorce case you can come running along to play hero and tell everyone you suspected him of adultery. Secondly, a sexual predator conceals their intentions until they can...
