Dan Ranks: A Comparison of Ideologies

Read my profile; you will see you are again speaking from a position of ignorance. Having a 'day' job for me is SO much of an understatement that gave me a good chuckle. How many people do you employ and are responsible for? It took me several years to establish my buildings ownership and to be...

Dan Ranks: A Comparison of Ideologies

I will just say if a school owner cannot figure out that stuff they do not need to be a school owner. That is a completely different dynamic from being an instructor but I am not certain you see this. FWIW, many times I have encouraged people on this forum to take a business class or two if...

Haha. I cannot and yes, that was a bad choice of wording. Believe I was thinking of synonymous. Let's try it is the same as saying conversation equals 'word sparring'.

Troubling Racism and Xenophobia in Sumo Reforms

Nail on the head. I have always taken to the idea that most uses of cultural decent, say the Washington Redskins, was always a term of endearment and never intended as a slur. Audits within the Indian population found this to be the consensus. As with many things right now it is the cultural...

It is posts like this one that make me realize we really need the 'informative' button back.

Troubling Racism and Xenophobia in Sumo Reforms

Our son played a little rec league rugby at WKU. There were some teams that did a very similar field entry. A rugby thing maybe?

Conversation? I have heard the acronym 'word sparring' many, many times.

Been a while since I done a Kung-Fu form but I remember there being an opening or beginning movement. Along the same vein of question, when I competed in forms I definitely got myself 'ready' before going into ready position. Does that make sense? Some folks ready position is just over the top...

Agree; arguing for the sake of arguing is unproductive; but we all do it, unconsciously at times. It never hurts to point that out to someone even though the attempt may be fruitless.

Have you ever considered quitting your MA(s)?

I have never quit training TKD but I have suspended it for different reasons. In my competition years I trained 6 days/week 4-5 hours/day, while working full time. So much of my TKD was put on hold. Technically I could argue I was still training TKD but high level WT competition is it’s own...

Troubling Racism and Xenophobia in Sumo Reforms

But do you feel they are completely different topics about the same sport? The death is tragic and speaks to the need for ancillary tools (EMS) that are needed in Sumo, just like every other contact sport. The other points about hygiene and personality/culture are harder to assess. IMHO

    Your Enemy Is Training...

To be clear though; that is what some of the forums are for, like the last poster forum. I do not ever remember this happening in a style specific forum, jack wagons aside. This site is as diverse as possible when it comes to martial arts. It also offer forums for casual conversation so a...

    Your Enemy Is Training...

Not trying to derail the thread. But the fat cop is a bad and a negatively charge example right now. I was really fast (4.4 speed) in my LEO years. I worked alongside heavy people who could nearly keep up with me in pressure situations. I also worked with lightweights that could do the same but...

    Footwork and Movement

When you walk your feet/legs Pass one another as we stride. In physics it is called walking beam. Our body is built to make this motion so the mechanics are making no 90 degree motions. When we take a perpendicular step then we are crossing our feet. Anatomically it goes against everything but...

Troubling Racism and Xenophobia in Sumo Reforms

Fully agree. But I cannot think of an instance when a player of foreign origin tried to bring their baggage or be very overt about cultural differences in football. It is a team sport and requires a team mindset. Just do your job. A good example is Kapernick. An average quarterback who was...

Troubling Racism and Xenophobia in Sumo Reforms

I have no issue with the premise but yea, the reporter wording was not tactful at all. If Sumo wants to keep it's purity I have no problem with that. It is their right. Of course this could go either way; either eroding the sport or increasing it's popularity and National heritage.

    Liability insurance for teaching, recommendations?

I do not know it they are in Cali but I use Next for personal liability coverage. They have been great to work with and very affordable. I use them in my MA business and another policy for our farming operation. I have had claims on both policies that went through without issue or rate increase...

Why do people say to never kick air?

Gorilla tape is great. Much thicker than duct tape and made differently. It has a very tacky surface and will tear skin much like a canvas bag but man is it great for reinforcement.

    Forum Update April 2021

The issue appears to be hidden tags. When you backspace into that, you've deleted part of the end tag. You can cap it with [/ quote] (remove the space in that) to get back outside the quoted info. Likely some part of the tag will show up in the quoted info - you should see that in your quoted...

    Forum Update April 2021

An bug I have recently encountered a few times; When typing a post if I inadvertently backspace past the first line of text the cursor jumps into the 'replied' section of the post and you cannot get the cursor back out. No matter what I try it ends up as another reply from OP. This is happening...

Dan Ranks: A Comparison of Ideologies

Using my Kwan (MDK) as the example, we practice an established set of Hyungs (poomsae) that are older than the KKW form set. This in no way makes them outdated. Just different. To infer otherwise is propaganda thinking fed to you by KKW. That said, do you feel your CMK forms are outdated?

Thank you, I would enjoy have a beer with you but we are pretty far apart so it will have to wait. Believe me when I say I Love to debate. My wife has said many times I would argue with a rock. I always tell her I disagree because the rock cannot argue back. In this conversation I have the...

Dan Ranks: A Comparison of Ideologies

CPD is a common term that should be applied in personal life as well as professional business. Never have I seen it applied in the progression of KKW in it's intended model. More it has always been a 'kicking and screaming' contest between the powers in charge at the time (also a revolving...
