Are competitive Sport Martial Artists superior?

Competition is like mirror: allows too see real fighting skills level and what should be improved. And what is very important the level of opponents grows up what forces constant improvement. Non competitive MAs have not this kind of verification and even if sometimes the skills level is tested...

The biggest problem in Wing Chun (and most other TCMA).

True test should be done without tapes. If hard hitting without gloves and tapes make the break of hand bones and wrists more often. Look at the exaple of Mike Tyson who broke his hand in street brawl. And If hard hitting without gloves nad tapes makes the difference for long time health and...

    The hatred of boot scooting

Person on the ground can stay on the ground. He/she just lost 2 points. Avoiding of engaging is very faste punished by penalty point - 4 penalties and DQ. I do refereeing with IBJJF, ADCC etc rules for more than decade, and UWW Grappling rules theory and more important the practice emphasizes...

    The hatred of boot scooting

small OT: United World Wrestling has very nice format of submission wrestling competition, called by UWW just "Grappling". The rule about takedown down is simple: if you are down for 3 or more seconds (doesn't matter if you sat down or if you were taken down) your oppenent get 2 points. As an...

Aikido has no reason to prove itself!

Many knife wielder keeps hand in front - especially if they do not want to attack for real- just to show the knife and intimidate the victim. Or for the defence purposes - to drive the opponent away - once ( about 25 years ago) during tussle with naziskinhead my coleague and I chased one nazi to...

What does it exactly mean? What was his methodology? What was his laboratory/experiments? Everybody can say "I have studied knife defence".

Aikido has no reason to prove itself!

It works: But my personal opinion is that it is better to control hand with the knife. But everything can happened in the fight.

Does punching vertically really decrease the chances of breaking your hands? How do you do so when you hit that way?

First of all: theye were aiming mostly to the sof part of body (belly) - this is the reason why their stance ( look at old phothos and graphics) was more similar to wing chun than to nowadays boxing.. And probably they were not going for KO as much as modern boxers (less power in punches to...
