    Realistic Training !!

I would appreciate seeing a "good" attack in a Bujinkan video clip as well.

SKH featured on cover of Black Belt Mag!

I saw the article, and read about half of it. I was confused. Is ToShinDo a synonym for Ninjutsu? The article (the half that I read) was about Ninjutsu. Just to clarify, I am not affialiated with any of the Bujinkan or Hatsumi derived organizations. And what does the title "An-Shu" mean?

Ninjutsu Noobie Question: Tenshin Shden Katori Shint-ry

Let me just get this out of the way up front: This is a "noobie" question. i.e. I don't study Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, nor do I live in Japan. I don't frequently travel to Japan, either. I did a quick search and didn't quite find the answers to the questions that I formulated. I am sure that...

How Rank is Handled in the Bujinkan.

Hehe. Ben Cole is annoyed at me. LOL. Let me just say that after reading your very spirited post, it still stands that "30 something" tenth dans are widely considered anomalous. It has already been explained that Soke Hatsumi's ideas of rank do not correlate to kyu-dan ranks given in other...

How Rank is Handled in the Bujinkan.

That's an excellent point. Regardless of why or how you earned your rank, the fact that you have it shows that you have "paid" your dues and the organization has recognized your efforts.

How Rank is Handled in the Bujinkan.

The tone and content of Dale's posts represent the Bujinkan very positively. I think you are an asset to the organization. Ok ... back to the topic at hand.

Preach on, brother! I totally agree with you.

How Rank is Handled in the Bujinkan.

Even Japanese people are a little suspicious of 30 year old 15th dans. AFAIK, the kyu-dan grading system was created by a Japanese man named Dr. Jigoro Kano. There are definite minimum requirements for Kodokan dan ranking. It seems like Soke Hatsumi is the one deviating from the traditional...

My hat is off to you. "Respect!" as some of the young people say ... LOL

Are you saying it comes down to $$$?

How Rank is Handled in the Bujinkan.

If bujinkan ranks do not uniformly imply a relative standing or position, why make the ranks known? If it really is just a personal barometer, do you even need to know "so-in-so's" rank? Wouldn't it make more sense to just say "this person is a Shidoshi/Shihan and this person is not" or "This...

How Rank is Handled in the Bujinkan.

Thanks for the clarification. Your explanation seems reasonable (to me). I feel slightly relieved. :) Regarding ranks, how many judans and jugodans are there?

How Rank is Handled in the Bujinkan.

I'm not proud to admit this, but I have pissed off several instructors in various martial arts in my younger years. The ones that decided to "teach me a lesson" would either have me step into a ring, step on the mat, etc. .... they would let me know it was "on". Never have I had a teacher get...

How Rank is Handled in the Bujinkan.

Ha! At least give the STUDENT a chance to defend himself/herself .... An INSTRUCTOR having his/her student "punch in" with a telegraphed, choreagraphed attack in order to be intentionally "knocked to the floor" in order to be taught a lesson sounds cowardly and lame. I am sure you were...

Do you have a story on using BJJ in a REAL situation?

You are correct. You do not need BJJ to compete in the UFC, especially if you plan on being submitted.

The religious connections to the Kamidana

All I'm saying is that Shinto is probably the most common religion in Japan. It's no coincidence that you find Kamidana in Japanese dojos.

The religious connections to the Kamidana

Actually, the Kamidana has it's roots in the Shinto belief system. To say that it is merely a symbol of respect for the founder is a substantial downplay of its history. But if that makes you feel more comfortable with it .... ;)

    ESPN Gracie Jiujitsu Documentary!

Quote from the video: "In 1950, Helio faced the two top rank jiu-jitsu fighters from Japan. He rendered both of them unconcious with chokeholds." Does anyone know the names of these guys, and what martial organization had them ranked as the "top" jiu-jitsu fighters? I'm guessing they were...

KT:When do you become a Master?

I don't know if you are referring to political issues, but Larry Tatum's Kenpo is rock solid. He is a highly skilled EPAK practitioner.

    Fu Jow Pai

I just read all 3 pages of this thread and I still haven't gotten much insight into the Fu Jow Pai system. Would you please tell us something about the theory, training methodology, ranking system, history, etc of the system? What is a typical training session like for noobs? for advanced...

    Christian Kenpo Schools

Exactly. There are many positive things that come out of training kenpo/kempo. But do not try to sweep the essence of the art under the proverbial rug.

    Christian Kenpo Schools

I have the impression that you can't reconcile your personal belief system with the legacy of the art that you practice. In no way am I suggesting that Kenpoka are killers. I'm stating that kenpo is an art designed to inflict serious injury and possibly death. It wasn't designed primarily as...

    Christian Kenpo Schools

Have you let the many benefits of your training blind you? Look at the strikes, targets, and sequencing of kenpo/kempo. When properly applied by a skilled practitioner, do you not think the results exceed simple "self defense"? Perhaps my kenpo training was unusual. Or maybe you thought...

    Jeff Speakman and Kenpo 5.0

I'm not sure if you are implying that people who compete within rule sets don't know the difference between sport and streetfighting. I would bet that someone trained in grappling would not have a problem eye poking, eagle clawing, thumb to the temple, etc, in a street fight. In fact, knowing...

What is a "Christ centered" kenpo school? I have never heard of such a thing. I thought kenpo was a "killing art".

Does anyone have any Bujinkan video showing techniques being performed at full speed? Preferably, no lunging punchings. I would really appreciate seeing how these techniques would look in an applied situation.

Are the lunging, slow motion type of attacks shown in that video typical of Bujinkan training?
