Elements of Sapu by Bobbe Edmonds!

A great time to sapu is when they are stepping forward. The timing must be perfect, but when it is, things go Stooges really fast for him. I also prefer a knee bump/bar to work at unbalancing them before the sapu. Of course, you could just work the ballistic sweep by turning the foot out and...

    Is it likely???????????????????

Statistically speaking, I would say that it is VERY UNLIKELY to run into a martial artist of sufficient caliber to affect the outcome of an physical altercation. Of course, anyone that is sufficiently skilled in wrestling, a common high school sport in the U.S., would have an advantage in a...

    need to vent

Agreed. My stepbrother pulled that crap (while I went into the Navy, work my *** off, & am now finishing up two Bachelors degrees). It may hurt, as a mother, I'm a father now & I can only imagine what I'll do when that day comes when my girls say they know better. Tough love, dish it out!!! Be...

Open Handed Techniques and Broken Fingers

That and it facilitates quick grapples and things like that. When I have an open hand and a spread thumb, I tighten the pinkie/ring/middle fingers upon impact.

    Knife Defense

IMO, live blade training does have some merit, but IT SHOULD ONLY BE PRACTICED BY HIGH LEVEL PRACTITIONERS. One master than I know of has been quotes as saying that "for someone to be called a master of the blade and yet has never faced one, he isn't qualified for the title of blade master"...

    Knife Defense

Most knifers don't attack with the level of complexity of Piper or Sayoc-trained folks. Statistically, it just won't happen. I think training for the most probable attack styles will yield the most useful results, as far as applicable skill sets go. The standard FMA strike pattern, at least the...

    What dog breed are you?

Golden Retriever The Charmer Laid-back, sociable and well-groomed, you've got your own hip little pack of groupies who just love to be around you. You have a brain inside that adorable little head of yours, though you use it mostly to organize your hectic social calendar. You never poop out...

    Okinawan karate question

In Shobayashi Shorin Ryu we'd kick the makiwara with it but also kick the bottom of the heavy bag for a little different and perhaps more realistic angle. When properly conditioned it's very practical, especially since it's easier to apply when wearing shoes of all kinds, as opposed to using the...

    Okinawan weapons advice

I'd recommend any of the Kobudo stick work (bo, gusan, nitanbo, eku, etc) is great for practicality, sai is really fun since there are tons of variety in application.

What type of move is this?

NO VERBAL INSULT could possibly justify such action, ESPECIALLY soccer-kicking & stomping the kid AFTER HE'S DOWN & OUT. Ridiculous. That's no master. After watching it again, it appears to be a grab, then a right hand strike & headbutt combo. Does anyone else see that?

What's the English word for this move ?

Even back when I could do it reliably, I still preferred the good ol' Koho Kaiten (Backward Roll) to stand up. If I'm on my back, I want to move away from my opponent while I gain my feet, just me. Plus... going into a kneeling position prepares you for another roll if necessary :ultracool

Where do you carry your back up knife and why?

GREAT POINT!!!! My EDC is a Cold Steel Recon1 or Extra Large Voyager clipped to my right hip pocket. Just the easiest access. If I carry a back-up, it's usually when I'm wearing cargo pants so it's in my left cargo pocket.

I think kickboxing is better than submission grappling for SD?

"I think kickboxing is better than sub grappling for SD"... You are correct. "Kickboxing" + takedown defenses/sprawling is better for SD, since in real-world scenarios, mobility is the Golden Rule (besides "Do Unto Others Before They Do Unto You", of course...)

But that's kind of my point. Compared to the wealth of experience and knowledge that Couture possesses, Liddell is a bit of an amateur. HOWEVER... he knows enough about grappling (sprawling, countering set-ups, etc) to stall any attempts at takedowns, and then he drops close bombs until you back...

    Silat or Kali Knife skills

When it comes to authentic Indonesian Silat and Kuntao knife skills, you probably won't find better in that region of the country. Really. Take advantage!!! Uncle Bill's got the stuff! When it comes to knife skills, authentic Indonesian Silat is, by definition, effective.
