Is Wing Chun being used the wrong way in fighting?

(QUOTE="gpseymour, post: 2032709, member: 27826"]I said "difference in application". Meaning, you're applying it differently.,) I think this application definition might have swerved into personal semantics. I view application as what I want the technique to do, like do I want it to bridge or...

Is Wing Chun being used the wrong way in fighting?

Your completely entitled to your view and I respect it, but for me, I disagree. To me it seems that your saying that each time an opponent moves left or right or sinks and rises and I use a man sau to bridge, for example, your saying its a different application. In my view the application is...

Is Wing Chun being used the wrong way in fighting?

I dunno I think it might come down to the artistic expression of violence. The art in martial art, maybe. If you take a single technique from any form and you analyse how to apply it inside, outside, over and under etc. Me as a tallish guy who enjoys getting close has a preference for over and...

Is Wing Chun being used the wrong way in fighting?

I think it's a pretty much given that they are one and the same person, there was even a lengthy "quote" Nik wrote out which he attributed to his "sifu" as opposed to himself. But then all great men refer to themselves in the third person such as Julius Caesar and that snark fellow who has...

    Branches of Wing Chun question

I think the distinction is further muddied by the changes and adaptions in different wing chun lineages, with some looking more similar to Weng chun than others. A good few years ago I started learning the Hoffman version of Weng chun in the UK. It had a very large bjj element attached and the...

    Branches of Wing Chun question

KPM did a bang up job of explaining the origins of wing chun and weng chun in an earlier thread. Whether they are the same or not depends on who you talk to and what they are selling. What is weng chun? | MartialTalk.Com - Friendly Martial Arts Forum Community Though seems now the marketing...

    Branches of Wing Chun question

I am pretty sure this is Weng Chun. I understand there is some controversy as to whether it is separate to wing chun, but Michael Tang the grandson of Tang Yik, a fairly renowned practitioner of weng chun has always maintained its an entirely separate art. I believe Cheng Kwong, the man in the...

Is Wing Chun being used the wrong way in fighting?

I don't know... For me chi sau isn't really a technique it's for transitioning between techniques. I kinda see those examples you posted as conditioning or for enhancing ability not an ability in themselves. Just my view in it though and I'm a nobody on the internet.

Is Wing Chun being used the wrong way in fighting?

I think the issue is the opposite. In some cases competency of the basics became too all consuming, until the wider view of using wing chun as a martial skill came secondary to the study of the minutiae. A bit like looking at a boxer and deciding their balance, reach and swing is all wrong so...

    Wing Chun Sparring

Quite true. I met mark Philips at a dragon boat festival. we were doing a wing chun demo as was his school, very nice, genuine and stand up guy. Exceptionally tall. One of the other students/sihing trained at his school for a bit, apparently very fancy set up with a range of different martial...

    Wing Chun Sparring

I think you might be thinking of someone else. Even in the older videos with James Sinclair, Dr. Mark Phillips wasn't wearing silk and promoting airs and graces. The footwork really hasn't changed much.

Naah you don't understand it at all. Don't worry,.it's clearly not the first time. Baby... lol, name calling, really. Look it's your poor reading comprehension, no one else's just own it. Good effort on getting through that wordy article though.

I don't blame you for not talking about you, I can't think of anything to say, I even pointed out things that you aren't, as opposed to are... I can see why you do what you do... Dragging down others so you can feel better about yourself... It's kinda invigorating. You should be familiar with...

This is awkward. I thought you didn't read it. I didn't realise you tried to read it and completely misunderstood the contents. I feel really bad about making fun of your reading ability, I get it, life's hard enough without people pointing it out.

I love your optimism and belief in yourself...but... Just because some great athletes train in a similar sports to you, doesn't mean that you are a great athlete or a great fighter. But don't let that stop you.

I am all for having productive discussions from other arts and I am on occasion interested in having actual discussions with people from the MMA community if they can manage to have a two way conversation. hanzou couldn't manage that. He was playing the big man, making stuff up, being ignorant...

God.... He's not still going on is he? I couldn't face anymore of him constantly moving the goal posts because he was so desperate to talk about MMA in a wing chun forum... I had to put him on ignore. Geez...no one in this wing chun forum is interested in mma... so he made up some wing chun...

It helps plenty. It's clarified your full of contradictions and hot air. You claim he WROTE wing chun and Kung Fu was lacking and limiting... You even gave a name of a book and then you claim bruce Lee must have meant this in some passing comment he allegedly made, Not even directly from him...

Ooooh right... So when you wrote.. "Wing Chun and traditional Kung Fu in general lacking when he went up against boxers and wrestlers. Chill out, your not doing your blood pressure any favours. Thanks for coming to a wing chun forum and providing case and point. Saying wc practitioners don't have a leg to stand on.. the MMA community points and laughs and then claiming your not rubbishing the style just makes you sound...

    Non-Wing Chun

I genuinely find this an interesting view. Looking at it from the wing chun side, the wing chun community doesn't really give two hoots what the MMA community think. The wing chun practitioners are not on the MMA forums rubbishing MMA and declaring wing chun superior, it is nearly always the...

    Looking at opening a school

Thank you so much for the advice. Still in the process of drawing up the business plan and potential marketing avenues. It's funny the swells and wanes of fashions in the martial world, in the 60s karate, 70s Kung Fu, 80s ninjitsu, 90s kick boxing in the 2000s bjj and from 2010 the nebulous...

Thank you everyone for your insights and explanations. I think it's clear that this a going to be a bit of a non profit venture, but it will be doing something I enjoy and can afford so that will be cool. Out of all ma, wing chun seems to be a hard sell at the moment. There seems to be a lot...

Well, here I was getting all excited about a lot of activity... Well that's disappointing. I appreciate that maybe your community and family may have not seen covid deaths yet, so it all feels like a hoax or whatever. That's fine. Everyone is entitled to their individual beliefs. My dad, who...
