How many schools and how many instructors?

I've trained in 3 different dojangs. First one is UCDavis taekwondo club, i like the instructor alot, but the classes were HUGE, and being a white belt, we are very much neglected. He separates the class into higher and lower belts, and we just didn't get much attention. But when you do get...

    Do u like forms?

Yes, our forms are done last (well, before sparring), and it is really really tiring to do all those for the test.

    Traditional tkd

I still train in a 'traditional" type school, punches to head are allowed, sweeps, grappling are also allowed, (not too many people uses them though, sweeps a bit more than throws, joint locks and stuff). We do have people who go into tournaments but in terms of teaching, its traditional style.

    Do u like forms?

Speaking of forms, i'm just curious what other schools are like.. we have to do all the forms we've learned for the every rank test... do you just do your most current form, or all?

    One Steps at full speed?

Well, we do them slow when we first learn it, but i don't think there is an option here. hehehe.. Anyways, our requirement is speed, and how close you can get to your partner without hurting them... it is expected to be very close to your target, only the block can be a real block , all the...

    Do u like forms?

sorry, you mean pyung ahn 5? It is a very challenging form for me. The most amazing part of this form (that is, if you do it right), switching from a front stance to back stance quick, the big jump.. i just love to watch it too.

Yep, I love forms. We still do traditional forms, very similiar to the tang so doo folks. It's very exhausting though

    TKD is pretty friggin fun.

Yay, i'm glad you enjoy your class!! I'm a bit puzzled on the jump side kick too, on first week?? Not saying it's wrong, because those fancy kicks makes it fun and more interesting.. but make sure you do concentrate on the basics first, side kick is easy to learn, but difficult to master.. Good...

    Endurance for test

Hi all, I have some issue with endurance.... wondering what is your way of training for that? When we do forms continuously, we really only get a few minutes of rest, my instructor said that you should use the attention time to breath and get your heartrate close to resting HR if possible (for...

    Home practice equipment question

is this school (Jeet Kune Do) charging too much??

I honestly have never seen a school that doesn't allow you to try out a class. I don't quite understand the theory behind that... we have people trying out in our class (more so in the beginners class, but some people who have ranks at other schools or dicipline may check out the open...

    Push-ups-punishment or exercise? both?

We do it as part of the workout, usually after class. We also do it as punishment... even us adult, we play games during classes, , and whoever loses, will do like 5 pushups, or something like that, i don't mind it.

Do you practice kicking a bag every class?

I train 5 days a week, different instructors every week. I would say 90% of the time, we have some sort of bag kicking drills. I was told that we need to work on power when kicking bags, and if your partner is alot smaller than you, you also need to learn how to use control, and you should be...

Hook Kick- which muscle is my weakest link?

I think i'm gonna try slow kicks first, the hip motion is hard for me.. i have no problem moving my knee past the center target a bit, it's getting to the other end that is my challenge... Thanks for all the info!

Hook Kick- which muscle is my weakest link?

My hook kicks are very weak.. when I do it on the air, it looks okay.. but my instructor sometimes make us do the kick over a bag, and you're suppose to see the knee moved from one side to the other entirely, almost making a half circle.. sorry, my description sucks. What she's saying is that...

Yay, I passed my blue belt test!!

I think it's 5th, next belt will be red, then brown, then brown/black, and black. I have no idea what i get to learn aside from Pinan 5. Our school still uses the old old shotokan forms. I think we get to learn more cool one step sparring techniques, take downs and things like that...

Yay, I passed my blue belt test!!

I just want to let you all know that I passed my test!!! I'm excited to learn my new form (Pinan 5). While reading what forms others do, I'm a bit puzzled because seems like my dojan does TSD forms, not TKD forms, (Bassaii)?

What Forms Poomse Hyung do you do

Terribly sorry, since I am not up to that level yet, I looked it up at school and it's one single form called: Bassai Dai Not sure what that is, it's interesting to watch though.

    1st Dan Breaking Requirements...

I'm not sure why my school doesn't require board breaking for the black belt test, it's not a requirement, but they usually perform a kicking technique, that's all. strange

What Forms Poomse Hyung do you do

In our traditional Taekwondo school, at least for blue belts or lower, we do Pinan (Pyung Ahn 1-5) forms. And i know the brown belts do these weird looking forms called "phonetically" basana... or something like that.
