The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.
To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.
Smart lad, to...
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Jan. 15, 2013The USA Taekwondo Transitional Board of Directors would like to recognize Grandmaster Walter Al Cole for a lifetime of service, dedication and contribution to the sport.
Instrumental in the Olympic adoption of taekwondo and the further development of the...
I was sorry to see the post and am praying for Master Cole. I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to meet him and his sons all too infrequently. He is a fervent advocate of taekwondo and a great friend to any who strive to learn more about it.
From a non-instructor/parent's point of view:
I can totally understand giving more attention and extra help to students who excel. I am not sure that in and of itself qualifies as "favorites". It is always nice when an instructor goes the extra mile for/with the student who is willing to go...
The USAT lists a Michigan State Championship on 3-17 in East Lansing. I can't find any other information on it. Do you know anyone involved and can you point me to a link for a site or pre-event packet?
Black Belts: 10-32 year olds The top four finalists at a 2012 State Championships or USAT Regional Qualifier will qualify for World Class sparring divisions. All other participants will qualify for the Grass Root divisions.
Read the underlined sentence. It specifically says all black belts...
Here you go. Red meat for lunch. Enjoy
Thank you for the pictures!
Can anyone clarify the reason/use for the vests? It looks like a demo team (?) wearing them, but not the competitors in poomsae? Are they more decorative and not a formal part of the required uniform?
Tony, thanks for understanding and not thinking I was attacking your post on the rules.
Rob, some great points. Thank you for the well thought out response.
For everyone else, including and especially ATC, I don't mean to come across as preachy, condescending or attacking. Am honestly...
First, ATC congratulations to your son for his accomplishments. The power and technique are truly awesome.
Now, I am going to be the bad guy on the thread and ask that it be taken as a discussion of issues and not a personal attack on ATC or his son.
While a lot of people applaud watching...
We started my daughter at 3. Her instructor made her attend two classes and observed her before he would take her on as a student. I have seen some kids who start at 3-4 and do well and others who are not ready to start at 6-7-8. It really depends on the child, his/her physical and mental...
California Penal Code, Section 12020-12040 specifically lists nunchucks as a prohibited deadly weapon that can only be used in a licensed school and can only be sold and mailed directly to a licensed school.
I am saying nothing about the practices of your dojang. Just that I wasn't willing...
OK, have to do the proud papa bragging routine (and will even resist complaining about the USAT for this one thread).
My daughter won Gold in forms, weapons and sparring at the Junior Olympics today. Came in third (last) in breaking, but is taking that in stride.
I will cede the above are valid points and thank you for your courteous reply.
If I may ask you two questions:
1) are you questioning the validity of Master Cole's rank?
2) Do you deny the Kukkiwon's validity/usefulness in confirming lineage? I am not saying that every master who has a...
Getting a bit personal? I don't think anyone who has met, knows or knows of Master Cole would ever see a reason for master to be in quotes.
There really seems to be a lack of courtesy and respect coming from one side of the argument. I had thought courtesy and respect were integral parts of...
I have read somewhere and been told that whatever age you will be as of December 31 is he age you compete at during the entire year. i.e. if someone will be 14 on December 31, 2011 even if he does not turn 14 until November, he must compete as a 14 year old throughout 2011.
Can anyone tell me...
Ok, my better, perhaps best judgment is to avoid this thread, but no one ever said I used good, let alone better or best judgment.
My daughter started training at age 3. Last February, at age 6, she tested for and earned her Black Belt.
I understand there are those who believe no one under...
Yep, there are a lot of Korean Masters/GrandMasters devoting their time, talent and knowledge to teaching anyone and everyone Taekwondo. My blonde haired, blue-eyed, non-Korean daughter loves it, and her Korean Master.
I actually found the lack of Koreans odd when I took her to her first...
Speaking for my family, the travel does get expensive. You need to pick your state/regional/qualifier events carefully and then determine which organization's national you can afford to go to or which one means the most to you. Then of course if they are scheduled at the same time all possible...
