This is not TKD... is it???????

Many forms include low (knee) kicks (Kwang Gae 13 - Pressing Kick, Koryo beginning Low Kick - High Kick, Po Eun 3 - Knee Level Side Kick) and even trapping a leg and striking at the joint. And what about movements 2 and 3 of Toi-Gye, Low Spear Hand and High Back Fist? It was taught a bit...

how long to first dan in your club?

Three years for my son. He could have done it in two but we decided he should take a full year at Red Belt before testing for Black. I see two year Black Belts at this school. They all would have benefited from taking an extra year as well.

I have to reprimend a student

We've been well, thanks for asking. Very busy though with my wife's college, son's school and my work. It's a good kind of busy :) How's things in the Hapkido/Kendo world treating you?

I have to reprimend a student

If this guy is a disturbance to the other students, then I completely agree in singling him out and setting him separate. I absolutely hate it when one student (usually a child) disrupts other students who are really trying to focus on what the instructor is presenting. If he isn't a...

Zachary last fight at the AAU qualifier

So you agree with me when I said "he definitely takes a fighting stance against an opponent on the ground". Which statement? The one you agreed with?? You confuse me.

Zachary last fight at the AAU qualifier

Actually, to me it looks like he's maintaining a fighting stance against an opponent who is on the ground. I'll have to take another look. *Edit: Yep, at the 1:05 mark he definitely takes a fighting stance against an opponent on the ground.

Zachary last fight at the AAU qualifier

In the tournaments my son has entered, if a participant is hurt the other is instructed to return to his side of the mat and kneel facing away from the center until the referee instructs them otherwise. A contestant can show concern without hovering over, or even approaching a hurt opponent...

Zachary last fight at the AAU qualifier

I especially liked how your son walked right past his opponent without even considering finding out how he was. Shows that he is a true warrior. You must be very proud.

    Avoid or invite confrontation?

The Master at my son's school tells this story. A man without martial arts training walks down a sidewalk and is jumped by three thugs. Another man with martial arts training walks down a sidewalk, sees three thugs, approaches and fights with them. A true martial artist (the Master uses the...

Olympic Dream is it real or just plain insanity!

Absolutely, they sell and endorse MANY products. *Off-topic about the horse/car racing... I like the analogy. Thing to remember is that it's not just the rider/driver. There's an entire team dedicated to ensuring the horse/car are in top shape. In more "athletic" events it's strictly the...
