    Revitalized!

Thanks TJ. It's no problem, I'm a forum veteran and have seen it all ;)

    Revitalized!

I have never trained in taiji so I am not sure if any movements have changed any... It's not tai chi it's tai cheng like you mentioned. They explain the program best: "Dr. Cheng has simplified the effectiveness of thousands of years of of practice into a platform of exercises that gives you...

    Revitalized!

Great question... It's definitely a Western approach to tai chi so they have a more "scientisty" approach to things. Tai chi is hundreds of years old and they didn't know what we know today. So this program optimizes things and maximizes the effects of your movements. I would love to actually...

    Revitalized!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Xue, the DVD's are a bit pricy... (3 payments of $39.95) but it comes with a 90 day money back guarantee, like workout program does these days... I noticed first and foremost that the nutrition guide is delicious and allowed me to drop around 22 lbs in a 1.5...

    Revitalized!

I have been a practitioner of Isshin-Ryu Karate Do for well over half my life. I have been constantly trying to maximize my stances to give me the most out of my punches and kicks but everything up until this point has all be "hard" techniques... Punching HARDER. Kicking HARDER. You get the...

    Gi / Uniform Embroidery

I have been seeing more and more uniforms with kanji on uniforms. I am not talking about patches, I am seeing real embroidery for this. I'd like to have this done with one of my Ironman Gis and have it say "Isshinryu Karate Do" Like here: http://japaneseshodo.com/images/isshinth.jpg. Here are...

Need help selecting good MA gift

Handmade stuff goes a long way. I remember giving my sensei a framed martial arts inspired drawing of mine back in '96 and he still has it in his office today. I believe it was a Christmas gift however.

Importance of Ethics in Selecting a Dojo

Personally, I would stay away from any of the McDojo's in your area. Some instructors get 5 or 6 schools across the city and focus on $ over anything else. A ton of schools have affordable (or free) first class or 4 week trials. Try a couple out. See which one fits your needs. We have some...

    One-time SD seminars/short courses. A bit of a rant.

From experience (non TKD)... I have taken a couple self defense seminars in the past and have retained most of what they have shown me. I even took an arnis seminar and still retain most of that knowledge. The difference here is that, I already was 4-5+ years involved in karate. The basics were...

Blank Canvas - What would your 2500-3000 sq. ft. dojo have?

Thanks for all the replies. If I ever did open up a studio (would be a long time dream come true) then knowing what others "wished" they had really helps so I could just get the square footage once and be done with it. Of course, there is quite the conundrum between maintaining the lowest rent...

Blank Canvas - What would your 2500-3000 sq. ft. dojo have?

For me, I would love to have a traditional dojo like in the movie: Kuro Obi (Black Belt) Hardwood for days. Clean walls. I'd probably ditch the expensive looking vase though! Especially if I taught kids classes lol. Or go with something more modern (still with some ancient roots) like the...

Blank Canvas - What would your 2500-3000 sq. ft. dojo have?

If you had the means, what would your 2500-3000 sq. ft. dojo have? Where would the pro shop be? How would you arrange the spectator area? Would you opt for a square facility or rectangular one? Speak your mind and let me know what your dream dojo would include...

PS. at the 8 minute mark of the video I think he gets into the chamber.

Trying to do a 540 spinning hook kick, help?

Start by spinning. Then jumping, then jumping and chambering, then jumping chambering and kicking... Pretty sure the guy in the video covered it in one of his other videos. It was one of the more basic ones like the other 540. (Thanks for posting that video by the way. The guy in it is...

Trying to do a 540 spinning hook kick, help?

I couldn't get past 360 because of: 1.) My arms didn't wind up enough 2.) My arms didn't tuck in right after 3.) I never turned my knee / chamber out to unlock the hips Fixing those three did the trick for me. I am currently working on perfecting the 540 kicks so nothing too fancy just yet ;)
