Is Akido worth learning? (Self Defense)

If you follow the above advice, which IS sound in my opinion, you've got to be the kind of student that doesn't just "do what the class is doing," but pays attention to what the instructor is saying and what actual concept they're trying to convey. It's quite difficult to just "understand" the...

Instructors, how do you defend against Sensei Seths side kick criticism?

A technique is "taught" in a certain way to white belts and other people in the beginner phase a certain way, so they develop certain things from that training which will continue on. Some of those things are "training wheels" so to speak. Probably necessary in the beginning, to get started...

Are the same techniques part of all Aikido styles?

For the Tomiki-ryu that I came up training in, that assumption would be incorrect, but to be fair, we didn't do the competition side of things as it was so rule-based that it no longer made sense at all from any objective measure. Well, I guess in any sense at all except to set up some rules...

If You Were Transported 300 Years Into The Past With No Clothes Or Anything Else, How Would You Prov

You do realize that Oregon is just to the North of California, don't you? The reason folks seemed to like the Oregon Trail, once it was made, as you had a trail wide enough for two wagons to pass each other going the opposite way. Gasp! That's progress. Then, I suppose if you've already done...

Got it. I'll go with my industrial espionage of the Cotton Gin noted above, I think.

Now you're just being ridiculous. I'm pretty sure that's your intention. Sure thing... no train of course, not even wagon trails west past the Mississippi River (i.e. the Louisiana Purchase bought the States that) area... but there was this little issue of Spain controlling the westernmost...

If You Were Transported 300 Years Into The Past With No Clothes Or Anything Else, How Would You Prov

If you think getting a jump on the Gold Rush of 1849 would be "easy peasy" a full 130 years before it actually took place, I shudder to think of what you might consider to be "difficult." Especially considering the Louisiana Purchase didn't take place until 1803.

If You Could Only Eat At One Restaurant For The Rest Of Your Life, Which Would It Be?

Actually, I'd probably ind up selecting a Mom & Pop pub serving food from around the Toronto, Canada area. We went there a couple of times to visit some friends, and found this one place that had a menu with, I am not exaggerating SIXTEEN pages of options. Can't find that at home in Texas.

    Doing forms with eyes closed

I did my TKD and HKD poomse with my eyes closed for years, specifically to work on my spatial awareness, staying on the line, distance. All that stuff. It's effective.

300 years ago... so 1720? Colonies in full swing during the South's not so proud heyday in the US. Side question, do I have the means to "get back" when I want, or am I stuck in 1720 to live there until done? Probably changes the strategem. I'm sat here thinking about "get rich"...

    Run away from no-mask people

"Judges... score! 1 point, Gerry." Just for the "zing" not for the content, y'all know I'm not "in" on masks as being an efficient method of doing much. Some studies make me want to swear by 'em, some seem to indicate they are dangerous to continue to wear (Legionnaire's disease making a big...

    Thoughts on "pop locks"

Sorry... I almost sprayed my drink out my nose for some reason when reading the end of the post.... Indeed. That IS true! Who woulda thunk it... lol... Ignore me... it's time to go eat.
