World Statistics updated in real time

The world statistics site was interesting - I did notice the disclaimer not to use it for exact calculations. Since it also stated it could be used for approximate future numbers if you change the date on your system, I wonder how much of it is actual data and how much is software prediction.

The bonus video makes me want one for myself! But given the name, I kept expecting her to sit up, giggling.

My question is how do they know whether the estimate is "accurate"? There are plenty of countries that do not record all their births and deaths and this doesn't seem like it is a "central" database that all countries "report" immediately.

I'm guessing the statistics is just a computer projection. This is very obvious based on the disclaimer that the calculations are connected to the computer's clock. What if the person died in front of the computer? What if there is a power outage? <shrug> It is just a "fun" website that shouldn't be taken too seriously.
