Just wondering. Different Iai styles use different obi.
Some use a karate belt under the hakama and some don't

What style are you and what do you use for a belt?

Thanks

I am a bit out of the loop on this one, but here goes.....

When I was studying Iai formally, I was studying Seitei/Eishin-Ryu. We would wear the traditional obi. You can see these at http://www.nosyuiaido.com .

For my tastes, a karate belt isn't wide enough to hold down the saya (scabbard) effectively. Your mileage may vary.

I prefer a "karate belt", but a lot of them I've pratice with used a iaido belt, witch is wider and softer. I felt that it held my saya to hard to my body, and hindering movement. So I kep to my "karate belt". The down side of this is that a loos "karate belt" has a tendancy to let the saya "fall down".
