Sounds a bit like a weight training exercise but really it's got nothing to do with it.

It's used to develop the skill of sinking the elbow , amongst it's many uses it is applied when somebody is trying to block your punches and you need to drag their arm down to open up their head area for striking.

Even just by itself , when done properly it has the force to cause severe whiplash to an opponents neck.

  • Partner 1 measures out stance and sinks down , and holds both arms up , elbows pointing to the ground , just like the double cut down movement in the second section of SLT.
  • Partner 2 stands in front of partner 1 and cups both of his hands underneath both of partner 1's elbows.
  • Partner 1 pushes his elbows into partner 1's hands using a very slight pressure , about as much pressure as what you use when your just leaning your elbow on a table .
  • Relax totally and start to sink both your elbows downwards , partner 2's job is to try and resist the cut down movement.
Important Points
  • Maintain slight internal contraction (tei gong)
  • Keep applying (elbow force ) into your partners hands the whole way through the movement as you sink your elbows.
  • Relax , do not use strength.
  • If you are performing the movement correctly , the partner resisting should feel his structure start to weaken and find himself being pulled both forward and down by the force of the cut down movement.
