People like to take pot shots at cops when they shoot each other in cross fire situations, but take a look at how this stuff happens.

Wow, that looks like it was one hell of a scarey situation!! Glad none of the officers were seriously hurt, as this could've turned out alot worse.

Now that's a **** sandwich!

Great way to put it!

Curious: is this a significant enough problem (please understand my meaning, any shooting injury/death is significant) that more group-tactical training is being pursued in academy?

Absolutely! That's what we mean we say we no longer train just on the 'square range'.

The notion that the real world is a 360 degree chaotic environment, and combat in the real world, likewise, is what drives the more cutting edge police training that is becoming the standard.

That's why we do, among other things, Force on Force training with simunitions and airsoft, so that we can create a 360 degree chaotic environment, where we can put officers in situations like described above, so it's not such an overwhelming surprise.

Moreover, we're adapting that to civilian firearms training as well, because simply putting rounds down range isn't a realistic preparation for a violent confrontation.

In fact here's a couple of examples of such being used in law enforcement and civilian training.

Good video to show, I am glad the teller got away, the police all went home (one with minor injury) and bad guy was stopped.
