Simplicity or complex

If you are a teacher and you had only one hour to train someone and the have the understaning of another person training for, lets say two years. How would you train them?
Simple or complex techs and why?

Start with the basics and it would matter on how quickly they pick it all up as to what I could teach them. You need a solid foundation before you get to the complex material.
