You have to love that banner. (ha,ha, ha)

I just cannot believe the marketing schemes people are employing now a days.
In the end I find it rather pathetic!

Read this and tell me what you think? (read the whole thing though)

http://www.theselfdefenseco.com/about_self_defense.asp

Ahhhhh...my eyes, my eyes, my eyes. LOL! Sorry Brian, got about half way down the page, and just couldn't take it anymore. (I'll probably go back just for a laugh and read a bit more, but after the first few lines, the BS meter redlined! LOL!

Seriously though...IMHO, I dont see anything the jumped out at me, that would make me go 'ohhh and ahhh' and decide to leave the arts that I do, to do something like this. This guy reminds me of some folks that used to post right on this very forum. You know, the ones who come on, talk a big game, making it sound like they created this new art, with knowledge that nobody else in the world has, yet when they're questioned on things, they take offense, grab their toys, and leave....mainly because people here are not falling for the garbage.

Hard to tell if there's anything of worth in there...all my bovine scatalogical alarm bells are going off though. :BSmeter: That's enough to keep me from going much further with the product.

I guess I'll just have to remain an ignorant pansy in danger from all the scum of the earth...it's a miracle I'm not raped, beaten and then eaten by rabid wolverines when I step out my door....

Peace,
Erik

C'mon... I'm sure he's done a first rate job repackaging stuff like Rex Applegate's Kill or Get Killed.... After all, he's not spending money on t-shirts; he says so on his website!

(Oh, and being 2nd runner up at the Bando Kickboxing Nationals... He didn't make it to the finals. Probably lost his first fight... I'd love to know what year that was. :EG: )

I don`t like the hype in his advertizing, but I can kinda see the need for it considering the attention spans of most people in this internet age. It`s over the top and opinionated, however I can say without a doubt that the information and skills he`s selling are real. Damion Ross was Carl Cestari`s right hand man for years before his death. He knows the material and he`s very, very competant. And I don`t think anyone could seriously argue with the effectiveness of what they were teaching.

Is there any sport application? No. Is there any cultural enrichment to be had in practicing this? No. Would it make an interesting hobby? Meh, depends on your personality. If you`re just looking for self-defense skills and don`t want to pursue any formal martial arts training, would this teach you how to defeat most attackers? Oh yeah! Is it more effective for self defense than most of what`s taught in say 80% of the dojos I`ve visited? Unfortunately yes.

This is basically the military hand-to-hand system developed by the U.S. and U.K. during WWII. It`s designed to be easy to learn, easy to recall under stress, and be effective for a person with no previous training. My dad was a H2H instructor in WWII with the 1st infantry division. I know for a fact this stuff works. And since wild horses couldn`t drag my daughters into a martial arts school I was glad that I could at least teach them the basics at home the way my dad taught me.

If your practice goals aren`t sport, socialising, getting in shape, or cultural, if all you wanted out of your training is the know how to defend yourself if the need arose .......you couldn`t find more pertanant info anywhere. Just my 2 cents

First... You can't close the page without clicking OK and my PC/Netwrok security side wonders just what the hell is he trying to infect your PC and or network with.

So I recommend closing the page with a Ctrl+Alt+Del and closing Internet Explorer.. but understand that this will close your internet browser.

Now lets see

Most Lethal Techniques

Where have I heard that before

Combat Tested

But later on the page he has this

Too Brutal For Police and Military!!

Sooooo how exactly is it “Combat tested”

Most Lethal Self Defense

Again where have I heard that before

BEWARE: The Martial Arts “Rip Off!”

aka caveat emptor, well at least he does warn you

The Self Defense Training System SUCCEEDS
because it’s Result Driven NOT Goal Oriented

Huh? So I have no goal.. not to survive, win, lose, help, or anything else

The Best Kept Secret of Self Defense

And once again…where have I heard that before

DISCLAIMER: The Following is for EDUCATIONAL Purposes ONLY. The Self Defense Company does not assume responsibility for lack of judgment and will not disclose any source of the following information.

That right there tells you all you really need to know

There’s No Better Feeling than Being Feared

I would disagree… as would just about any MA and major philosophy and religion on the planet.

And how do you become feared? By telling everyone how dangerous you are.. yup that will work

or just going out and randomly beating people up until the police arrest you, throw you in jail and you become your cell mate’s girlfriend.

You will be feared

Well I am already afraid of his page….but I am afraid of how many people are going to buy it, believe it and get themselves seriously hurt.

Thanks Brian!

That page has a LONG laundry list of all you'll learn ... from a DVD. I too couldn't read every word and as I began the long list of promises I had the same feeling I always feel when these long lists of promises are afforded the potential customer: THE RED FLAG WENT UP.

Too good to be true.

The advertising was like a web-based, written version of an infomercial - nonstop and coming at you. You'd almost feel guilty not to buy it.

Guilt, guilt, guilt, thy name is Shesulsa.
