12 years in this dojo, from white belt to 3rd degree black. I am 57 years old. In 12 years, my weight has gone from 277 to 223 lbs. I still have diabetes and it's progressing but I am doing OK without too many complications. I have a five year old granddaughter and all is fine with the world.

I have never stopped training. I still know next to nothing, and will not have enough time on this earth to learn enough, but I will keep trying. All that matters is the path.

This is an inspiring and motivational tale, as someone who just started with martial arts at 53. Thank you for sharing!

We have an 82 year old student in our dojo who was just promoted to 5th Dan, he started at age 46. He is still in good health, has very fast reflexes, and is a dangerous person to spar with due to that. Best of luck to you - the key is perseverance in my opinion. Talent, age, flexibility and even to some extent health matter less than just keeping at it.

Well, I’d say that person was too old if he/she wanted to compete in the junior Olympics. :)

But yeah, I agree with your point.
