With Illinois ramping up for hundreds of thousands of new concealed carry permit holders I have been researching concealed carry models of pistols and also wonder why they would go with a single stack .380 over a 9mm single stack. Is the .380 more popular than 9mm?

Glock 41 - longslide .45 ACP
Glock 42 - single stack .380 ACP

I'm curious to see what the Glock 40 was...

If you are savvy in the way of the Glock, you might be taking a mental tally and find a missing hole—the Glock 40. Nothing is confirmed, but the smart money is betting Glock will skip the Model 40. Conventional thinking believes a Model 40 could confuse consumers and novice shooter, believing it to be a .40 S&W.
from your link... Makes sense to me.

In a nutshell, it looks like comparing the following:

Glock 41 - Similar to the 1911 (size-wise)
Glock 42 - Walther PPK
