Having just read May's Black Belt magazine I am looking for opinions on Modern Defendo. It is great when a practioner writes an article about their style but they tend to be a little biased. So does anyone have any info on Modern Defendo?

How about an art specialising in turning your opponent on his head? UPPENDO!!!

Or maybe hanging him up by his drawers- SUSPENDO!!

Maybe an art practiced alone- NOFRIENDO!!

A very rigid, linear art- NOBENDO!!

A very economical art- NOSPENDO!!

An art which telegraphs motion- TELLMEWHENDO!!

A redundant martial art- DOITAGAINDO!!

The Los Angeles martial art- BREAKAWINDO!!

The friendly art of 'CMONINDO!!

The seldom seen art of WHEREYOUBEENDO??

And, the official martial art of the United States Postal Service- STAMPANDSENDO!!

(Sorry- I couldn't help it!)

And there goes Vince getting my foot stuck in his READENDO for turning this into a thread for the humor section.

But seriously if anybody has some good info about this combat system please post it. I will post a summary of the article on the weeknd.

Sorry, I am knew to this site and was going through some older messages.

Modern Defendo is a system designed by Bill Wolfe that is a blend of Hapkido, Brazilian JJ, and Thai Boxing. Overall it is not a bad system, but relies, for my tastes, a little too much on joint locking and clinching.

Wolfe makes the clinch, the basis for the defending against almost all attacks in the system. He advocates going into a clinch immedietly when attacked, and fighting from there.

The main criticism of Modern Defendo comes from Wolf's claim that it is derived from the teachings of William Fairbairn who taught H2H to the OSS and British Commandos during WWII. Wolfe has done this for marketing purposes, because none of what Wolfe teaches, is shown anywhere in any book or document that explains the teachings of Fairbairn, including Fairbairns own book, "Get Tough."

I hope this helps.
